I thought you were one having a wank over the new recruitment team and the new signings? They have done exactly what a lot of fans wanted. The manager should have been sacked in May. We’ve got good attackers being managed by a clueless idiot. I think if he does go soon they may well go for someone out of the blue. My only concern is someone not knowing the championship, though I like it when your own manager says this is our side, I don't care who you are, deal with it. Bar a good central striker I like our forward options, especially if we can see them playing with confidence. The defence though, shockingly scary.

I would never want the board out, I just wish that they would change their recruitment strategy.
This (must be British) thing just isn’t working…
I never wanted AN but as I’ve always said, now that he is here we have to back him.
I personally think that we’re fortunate to have owners whom also support the club. We have to remember that they are fans just like us. But, they have to look at themselves & realise that their strategy is simply not working & needs to change.

The only problem with our owners/ board is they have become a soft touch for mediocre managers who know they'll get a fortune even for failure....they need to bring in a non-football enforcer who can help spot when the axe should fall from a more cold and objective perspective Bullshit. They keep employing clones of the one they just sacked. They’re useless. Ooh bit harsh!! We cannot fault the backing the Coates family have given to this club over the last 25 years - OK they can afford it but you would never in a month of Sundays get owners with the emotional investment required to basically chuck their own money away - so yes, they have made some terrible decisions and appointments and that's why they need someone who is more detached to protect them from themselves as much as anything. Big companies do it all the time....

Is it unfair to say that, actually under Neil, the board have been supportive? I think their next big decision needs to be done, quickly. Can we get someone in who can take us to where we want to be, or are we resigned to being slightly above relegation regulars?

Thought my post would get a few angry, probably a little fresh after another terrible defeat,I honestly think the coates family have helped and tried their best but the main factor is, they don't learn from their mistakes and never will,I realise some don't like anyone saying bad things about the owners for some reason but again they are not capable of recruiting the correct team, ask yourself this if they were your boss and kept recruiting poor staff who would you blame

I think we are sort of in agreement in that the weakness is in the BIG decisions relating to managerial appointments and hence why I am suggesting that they employ such a person to lurk in the shadows and save them from themselves - new owners would not have any sort "local" investment which is needed for the kind of club we are ie zero appeal beyond north staffs and south Cheshire, would almost certainly not have enough cash or the wherewithal to accept.losing money as a pricenof ownership ....

How many times have they got it wrong and fans still say we have good owners, truly don't know where we would be without the money but we wouldn't expect so much so probably be in a happier place, there's other clubs who have been bought and are in a better place than us, question got to be asked is it time to move on Dear God!

I'm willing to bet good money that 'The Family' will take us to the third tier (again) before we ever see the Premier League again. I'm also willing to bet good money that when this happens there'll still be people defending them.

Greatest asset and biggest hindrance - they are great at backing the club financially and awful at running the club and employing the correct people.
If and when we deem Neil as a failure, the latest dour British no-hoper employed by the xenophobic Coates family, and move him on we do need to dig a bit deeper - it is like we wave a shite stick at managers and players that have been half decent at other clubs before the arrive here and are put through the shite shower on arrival.
The owners are not without blame and I would say are more likely to take us down to tier 3 football, not for the first time under their guidance, than build a squad that is even capable of finishing in the top half. Relegation takes some doing for a club our size and with our financial backing - somehow we look like we are going to pull it out the bag again - could we do any worse?

They are the only common factor in the past 5 year sink to the bottom. John Coates has no football management experience - in fact I don’t know if he has any significant managerial experience. The only way to get rid of the board is for them to sell the team. If they get a decent offer they should take the money and run before the value of their assets falls through the floor.

They think they are 'football people' (whatever that means) but they aren't. They clearly don't know the game - giving mega money to the wrong British people is an awful awful strategy. They've lucked out with Macari, Pulis and Hughes over the years. That's an atrocious strike rate. Football people are now owners like Brighton or Brentford have. Ones that have a plan and who don't have an inherent mistrust of anyone not from these Isles. They need to realise their shortcomings (I doubt whether that is a common trait in billionaires) and get someone in to run their club. The Coates are clearly not up to the task.

The whole “who would take over them” question.
What a load of bollocks.
How for one second would any of us know?
Wrexham had Ryan Reynolds.
Brum had Tom Brady.
If I suggested Tiger Woods, I would get laughed out of town but it’s not ridiculous based on the two above.
It’s a fucking stupid question. There would be someone. And that’s all that matters.

I agree - it is a massive flaw however we have zero chance of attracting any big hitters who would be remotely interested in hemorrhaging cash for the love of it .....so we need high quality appointments of professionals who know how to make big decisions objectively within the context of a sound strategy both on and especially off the pitch.

We've got good owners and in that respect we're lucky and know financially that the club is safe. We do however need to send in a few copies of the idiots guide to running a football club and hope they actually read it 😆

The board really aren’t the issue, at least not to the point where people should be wanting to get rid of them.
They’ve definitely made some errors but on the face of it some of the managerial appointments were reasonable decisions at the time.
Rowett had previously shown he’s capable of being in the promotion mix at Derby, Jones was an exciting, highly regarded up and coming manager. Neil’s CV suggested he should have done a lot better than what he has done so far.
There’s no guarantee anybody new would be able to pick the right manager either.

But the point is supposedly decent looking managers CV wise all keep failing badly. Eventually you have to consider the possibility that there is a problem elsewhere in the club. And the obvious place to start is in the boardroom not the canteen or laundry dept. That would be logical if yoos ask me 👀

For me I think it'd be too risky if new owners come in. Our current owners are solid if nothing else and I like their loyalty. And crucially they are genuine Stoke fans. I just want them to start running the club properly and put us on a Brentford or Brighton type pathway. They have the cash so it can be done if they get some proper clout into the boardroom.

That's part of the problem though isn't it, just appointing managers and giving them carte blanche to do whatever they want? Appointing a manager totally different to the last bloke with no overarching vision, meaning we have to rip everything up and start again every time? There doesn't seem to be a coherent thought process, just a skim-read of The Athletic or whatever about the EFL British managerial hot property du jour.

A new Board of Directors can mean two things; a new set of people, or a new attitude/policy.
I once knew a senior trade union official who was very opposed to voluntary redundancy. He believed people did not own their job they could "give away", but were custodian of their job and had a duty to hand it on to the next generation. I'm not sure I agree with that as times change and many jobs do eventually cease to be needed.
But I do believe a football club belongs to the fans, not the shareholders or management or players. Where would they be if no one turned up to watch? The fans can always go somewhere else to watch football.
The Board are custodians of the club and their prime role is to hand it on to the next generation.
It is clear they are no good a picking a team manager and they should change policy and either quit and hand over to someone else or appoint a competent football director.
