First Preston goal went in; no verbals or rousing of the players whatsoever, struggled to see him doing this at all throughout the game. How & why was he chosen as captain? Can’t believe Campbell wasn’t subbed today. Wouldn’t have lost sleep if Laurent & Campbell had gone in the last transfer window.

Had a bad game, round on the player. Dear me. You must agree that he's fucking phoning it in though? We need to move on from the likes of him and Thompson if we're serious about pushing on. An absolute 'nothing' player* *yeah I know he was on the scoresheet Vs Rotherham, but it's fucking Rotherham. Goes missing far too much than is acceptable and needs dropping/shipping out asap.

Had a bad game, round on the player. Dear me. It's a regular occurrence to be fair, he has been lethargic and shit a lot more than he's been decent. I'm not sure how any Stoke fan can defend the decision to make him our Captain, it was a mental decision, that could end up biting our manager on the arse big time.

He was pedestrian but I don't think he was terrible. As a team, I thought we did ok and he was a part of that 'ok' if you get me? He wasn't terrible, he wasn't good. There's a decent player in there. It's a shame he doesn't show it more but it's about getting it out him.

He’s just not an attacking midfielder. In the midfield today it looked to be his job to roam and be the creative outlet, however he just doesn’t have it in his locker. We are desperately missing that spark in the middle of the park to unlock a packed defence.
He doesn’t make the starting line up in the strongest 11.

I have no opinion on the captaincy. Lewis Baker wasn't captain material and right now, there are very few who probably qualify.

When the going gets tough, Ipswich, Millwall, Preston...you can count him out.
When it's all going our way and we are murdering a weaker side then he's on it .

Seems like the captaincy is a cursed chalice since shawcross left. Allen went to shit. Baker seemed to drop off. And Laurent hasn’t been great since…. Someone take one for the team and piss in the corners of the pitch next home game

Thought you didn't have an opinion on the captaincy? Do you think that Laurent was a good choice to be our Captain? (And don't answer with you have no opinion, because as a Stoke fan, you definitely do)

He was a crushing disappointment today after his heroics against Rotherham. I was thinking Ok, move him further forward and let's see what damage he can do. He was just a ghost this afternoon, and I imagine he would have been hooked instead of Pearson if he wasn't on a cheese slice. Bae should definitely be starting in his place next game. Is the European transfer window still open? If so, it's in everyone's interests that Italian team takes him off our hands.

A useful player to have in the squad with plenty of garbage sides in this league. Him being made captain has made it into an issue where he's already being played without merit. Pearson-Burger-Bae have to be the three going forward.

Wrong team selection by Neil to accommodate him and Burger. Needs to be one of the other. Reminds me of us trying to shorten Etebo and Allen into the same team for ages and consequently not creating anything.

Played shit during the week did he? Kk League games are what matter. Early cup rounds where teams aren't always playing at 100% don't count. So I always take cup performances with a pinch of salt. League games wise, it's 4 poor performances in a row.

He doesn't appear to have the head and heart thing that is vital in a captain. He needs to be rallying the troops when things are tough, cajoling them, marshalling them, standing up.
Today he did absolutely none of that.

It's a worry that when there is a battle ( at least 40 games in this division) way too many of our players aren't up for it, Laurent a Campbell prime examples and Hoever fast joining that select group who look good when the opposition allows them space to play. Neil has to change this and fast, no games coming up where another performance like this one will get anything, at least Vidigal and Ho look like they have talent and fight in them.

Hence my point that many of the same people thought Shawcross was a poor choice. I don't know is the truth. I think that we've got a surprisingly good bunch of players who are yet to quite gel and yet are still putting in reasonable displays. But do we have a captain among them? Well we only had ab out 6 players a few months back so it's not like we had a ye old reliable to turn to. Is Laurent captain material right now imo? At this stage I would say no, but that's not to say he won't grow into the role. Life is long, opinions change and people grow and develop into the role they are expected to fill. History is full of examples of great captains who grew into the role rather than came in as some kind of made-for-football leader.

It's an interesting point you raise, because I'm not convinced either that any of our first team players scream "captain" material. Out of the current bunch I'd go for Pearson, and I'm not his biggest fan.

Today he did absolutely none of that. I'm astounded that Pearson didn't get the armband when we signed him permanently, given his relationship with Neil and his on-pitch tenacity. Laurent only ever had one game as captain for Reading!
