Let’s hope he proves to be a good signing when he’s up to match fitness

4 weeks, 5 games. Hopefully he'll be fucked off after that. I'd rather hope that we win them but each their own.

Don't really understand why this was done weeks ago when he had talks. He could have been up to match fitness by now.

Don't really understand why this was done weeks ago when he had talks. He could have been up to match fitness by now. We had talks, but he was a free agent, presumably with options. One scenario might be that once the season had started the players already signed in the window and in the house, ostensibly represented our squad for the next 4 months at least. Once we had lost a few games it must have become difficult to bring in yet another defender as it might suggest to those already playing that AN didn't have faith in them, and an aditional arrival would further erode their fragile confidence. The injuries have changed everything, and whatever our strategy might have been before, the injury list provided a "cover story" at least, and helped justify the late arrival and gave legitimacy to the signing of a new man.

We aren't going to bring in another free agent that's for sure.

We aren't going to bring in another free agent that's for sure. Why? Until the new year, we've got: McNally, a 34yo with a recent history of hamstring issues who has played 11 minutes since January - and Michael Rose.

How long will it take Clark to break down with a hamstring injury then? We've seen a few of those already this season.

He can play next to his mate, our 34 year old left back!

Bizarre Doesn't have the injury history Clark has, is at least a good (tbh better) and if The Gas are interested he must be affordable Clark is left footer though

Why have we signed Clarke to cover for players out injured when he isn't match fit himself! So will not be bought into the side yet JOKE!

4 weeks, 5 games. Hopefully he'll be fucked off after that. Never want us to lose but we can't keep carrying on like this Would be for the better in the long run. Problem is, the season is effectively over then unless we have some remarkable second half which some teams do.of course. We're already 20 points behind the leaders after 11 games, hard to achieve unless you're absolutely dire...oh hang on , we are 6 points off the play offs with 35 games left.

The joke is that many of our new young signings were recruited, as I understood it, partly because their careers to date had largely been injury free, which was seen as a good thing considering our recent history. Of course after five minutes at Stoke they inconveniently picked uo injuries. Clarke is an experienced pro, who knows what it is to a player to have the frustration of an injury lay off. As such he can help our new boys understand the concepts of fitness and injury and this will help them at the Club in the long term.

This must qualify as the most stupid post this month. The only competitor that I can think it might have, was a post suggesting that we didn't sign a CH earlier as it might have affected the confidence of the 3 we already had. I can't be bothered to check but I suspect that the same poster was involved. If he wasn't please let me know.

The key word here should be "joke". The post was not made with any particuarly serious intent but merely represented an alternative viewpoint. I find it ironic that a number of players whose careers so far have not been seriously blighted by injury, should then suffer these setbacks as soon as they pull on a Stoke shirt. It must be very frustrating for the transfer team who must have hoped that an influx of players who don't seem to be particularly injury prone, and therefore ticking extra boxes for suitability, should now be out of contention for a significant period. As you correctly surmised, Independant, the stupid comment about the possible reason for a delayed signing of an extra defender was also attributable to me. Perhaps it was stupid but I don't claim to have any special insight into football matters or any in depth knowledge. I was merely expressing a personal and alternative viewpoint as a committed, and in this case, possibly confused, fan. Perhaps I take myself too seriously! If you are intending to reference ridiculous or obtuse posts I am sure there is no shortage of idiotic contributions elsewhere on the MB. Anyway, have a nice day.

Sorry, I should have said silly, instead of stupid, I apologise. It is highly probable that Clarke is unable to even converse with our foreign imports from Serbia, Korea etc., never mind the finer points of coping with a long term injury. Regarding the delay in bringing in another CH: If the players' confidence is so fragile then they are in the wrong job. Competition makes Champions, not mollycoddling. Even AN wouldn't put the wishes of the players' before the needs of the team, if he is even half the manager that you appear to think he is.

Josh Onomah still hasn't signed for anyone. Even if the contract we offered him was 'poor' it's better than the £0 he's making at the moment.
Bd decision from him i think.

I wouldn't be so sure.Who knows what the future holds? Clarke held out and I'm sure is being very well paid even tho' he won't be able to play for us for at least a few weeks. Clubs will be even more desperate in January.
