Shame losing those two, but that's what a squad is for I guess.
Be a good test of progress and one we could do with winning.
If we win, it puts the league start at a B+ for me. If we include the cup then probably an A-.
Love us to win, but think we are due a draw.

Preston home is usually a miserable affair. Think it could be different this time.

Don't you dare play a back 5 Neil! With the injuries he may feel it's the best option. 532 Campbell and Wes up top.

Preston are one of my least favourite opponents. Nothing to do with results. I can't stand playing them.

Absolutely no need to play a back 5, it's time to attack the league home and away.

Preston are one of my least favourite opponents. Nothing to do with results. I can't stand playing them. The nil nil in the early 2000s still haunts me. The worst game of football I've ever watched. Nothing happened and it was about -10 degrees. I was fairly young and had foolishly purchased a new designer coat which I wore. Thinner than the Aldi 1 ply 'gamble your finger' bog roll and it held half the warmth. I froze. Some kid jumped up and threw his ketchup laden chips down my back during the game. Coat ruined. On the way home my gf at the time sms'd to dump me. There was no one else she assured me (there was). She just thought I wasn't serious about her (I was). If I gave her time, she might change her mind (she didn't). Got home and the landlord had personally posted a hand written note informing me of impending rent increases and reminding me to weed the yard. So yeah, Preston, home or away, can get thrown in the Trent.

We never seem to get the rub of the green against Preston. I remember fuming all the way home after getting shafted by Michael Oliver in the away game of the promotion season. I also recall there being an earthquake in Stoke that night.
We're due a bit of luck - A spawny 1-0 with a shot from DJ deflecting off Pearson's arse in the last minute of injury time would be quite fitting.

I read this and thought of the D-ream record, things can only get better, 30 minutes later and it's on the radio, google picking up my brain waves via AI ? Hopefully things did get better after that day.

Preston are having a good start and there are some good things being said about them. This will be a very different game to Rotherham and more like against Watford. I expect it to be very tight, unless the new players really can make a difference. If they do show how quickly they have settled in, and do have a transformative effect on the style and character of the team, we are heading a for an exciting season. The Rotherham cup tie was perhaps a useful training session!

Midfield is a (good) headache. Assuming we stick with Tuesday's formation, you have to start Pearson and Burger then he has to fit Laurent and Johnson in. Will Laurent be played in a more forward role? because I can't see AN dropping Johnson.

Our home record against these since relegation has been absolutely dire. Four defeats, one draw and one goal (Wilmot) in five games.

We should be going into this full of confidence and with a bit of momentum from all the home wins so far this season. Always good to go into the international break on the back of a win.
