Looks like some bonkers score lines about across the league today. Preston seem to be a bogie team of ours at home… Tough fixtures coming up so Neil needs to find his best team quick He wasn't far off it today in my view which isn't very encouraging. Nah Vidigal starts every game and Mmaee will as well. Have feeling Gooch will play RB in tougher games. Not forgetting the newer signings. Early days

Not forgetting the newer signings. Early days I hope so, I had and I know many more expected a different stoke this season. I appreciate it needs time to gel but I thought we were crap today. Vidigal and Mmaee look to have struck up a friendship they were sitting together behind me today, hopefully they can take it to.the pitch

Load of rubbish. No creativity at all. Long hardseason ahead I'm afraid. Burger is weak as piss and got bullied. Wes is wank. Laurent invisible. Need some steel in the spine I'm afraid. Wes isn’t wank. He held it up well today but there is no other player within 20 yards of him. If they are going to play balls in to him when his back is to goal there needs to be someone with him. The system was crap today whatever that system was.

Johnson should have started today, he has something to prove to Preston, Laurent is not a 10 maybe even gone 4 4 2 and I wish Wes would get nasty but agree he was isolated. Campbell well words fail me

Wrong midfield set up left us exposed, playing an immobile CF with no pace and Campbell & Leris on the touch lines is madness, it left Wesley completely isolated. Having Laurent as the number 10 only added to our woes. If you play Cambell you play him on the right where he can cut in or just off the CF. Both wide forwards were isolated today and trapped on the wings by a well organised Preston defence. Unless you get the ball very quickly to wide men, they are easily marked out of the game as they have so little room. What we ended up with was all 3 forwards isolated from one another, Laurent strolling around (he’s never a number 10), Burger and Pearson outnumbered and the defence exposed. Tactics eh. Spot on. Preston set up perfectly to play us. 3-4-2-1. Bringing Holmes to run in behind at half-time changed the game.

Spot spot in manager got it terribly wrong today and he’s got bigger tests to come as the noise seems to indicate imjured players will be a while yet do he’s a three game week to deal with quite likely without them

I’m assuming he did exactly what he was asked to do today. I said exactly the same about Gayle today 👍

I know that the only stat in football that matters is the result but just glanced over the stats for todays results and it's staggering: Stoke Possession 70% - 30% PNE Stoke Total Shots 18 - 7 PNE Stoke Shots on Target 1 - 3 PNE Stoke Passes 481 - 226 PNE Stoke Corners 9 - 0 PNE No-way we should be having less Shots on target & losing games with the amount of possession, total Shots on goal and set pieces including corners we've had.. Early days but these stats seem all to familiar to last seasons, losing matches where stats suggest it should be otherwise. Important few weeks ahead but what is clear is we seem very wasteful from set pieces & don't make the most of our possession and opportunities to score. Flickers of hope but must do alot better going forwards. Not here to piss anyone off, obviously things are a bit touchy. But you can’t judge the game from those stats. Whilst I do think the score line flattered us and I also think the penalty was soft. I don’t think you can look at possession, pass stats, shots… etc as an overall look on the game, we scored 2 goals then sat back whilst you went all out attack as you had nothing to lose, hence the difference in stats. Not our best game and don’t think we’ll stay at this end of the table for long, nor do a lot our fans but we’ll enjoy it for now. Not expecting any niceties on the back of this so will sign off with a good luck for the season. No absolutely take your points pal and no issues at all with any of what you've said really. PNE had a game plan & it was executed to perfection. In the end Preston out smarted us and managed to kill the game off straight after going 2-0 up, infact it's possible you'd have been contented with seeing the game out with the 1-0 lead and still gained the same conclusion, but you managed to break away & seamingly unchallenged score a second which purely cemented PNE's hold on the game. The reason for me highlighting the stats is purely coz they echoed the final match stats for almost every match we lost last season. Wasn't intended to disrespect PNE, it was highlighting that our lack of finishing in matches is again costing us dearly. & that possession counts for nothing if it isn't making sufficient inroads or causing impact to the scoreline. A team having 9 corners to the oppositions 0, you'd generally expect to see as the winning team stats, but not where Stoke are concerned. Preston outmuscled Stoke today, looked hungrier & ultimately out thought us. & whilst PNE can't be accused of influencing any of the refs decisions persè, or indeed eventual outcomes he decided on, I do feel that a draw would have been a fairer outcome today taking away the controversial decisions. But that's football, you took your chances & we didn't. Good away following from PNE as usual and you never know, the great start you've had and with the momentum building you never know, you may carry on forwards to remain near the top and you may turn out to be one of this seasons surprise packages. Good luck for the season yourselves and let's hope The rematch at Deepdale next March will see our respective clubs in the hunt.

Preston wanted us to have the ball and knock it around in front off them , without getting behind them .
They wanted us to have 70 per cent of plodding , risk averse possession.
If we could have had 80 percent of even slower , even more risk averse possession , they would have been even more happy .
We need to move the ball much quicker , make more gambles and have a lot less possession , to achieve one or two ' close in ' chances ( P.O.M.O chances to use the jargon) , because what we really want are goals.
We should be embarrassed to have 70 per cent plodding possession .
They have made us look muppets , in front of our own fans .

my two pence worth
i think wes is decent at getting hold of the ball , shielding it, and laying it off
We need to get the ball to him much quicker and there needs to be much smarter and more rapid movement off him , especially without vidz , who was badly missed today .

Preston mastered the "Art of Shithousery" yesterday. Pushing pulling falling over to easily win free kicks and break up the flow of play. The penalty ? What a joke. When he's blew the whistle I assumed he was going to penalise them for diving.
As much as I dislike it do we need to accept that if you can't beat em join em ? Laurent in the second half broke through their defence was in their penalty area closely pushed by a defender. Little chance of scoring but could easily won a spot kick. I don't like or agree with it but that is what is frequently happening in the game.

What I don’t really get is this idea that Wilmott is a central defender.

Edna, Laurent and Campbell are too slow to fit into this new look team. IMO, Campbell will be moved on, in the next transfer window.
