What do you mean, ‘all of them’, eight of Saturday’s starting XI weren’t here last season? When are we supposed to have seen these improvements? Between Ferencvaros’ big game against Ujpest and Saturday? Between Maritimo’s big relegation six pointers and Saturday? I’d say the Rotherham game was an improved team performance compared with the dross we saw at home against similar opposition last season. Half the outfield starters were coached by our manager for at least half of last season. Wilmot, Laurent and Brown we’re here when he arrived. He has been working with Pearson and Hoever at Stoke since January. Brown didn't play on Saturday. The others were bad but had been good the week before. I saw some brief improvement in the spring and in our start to the season prior to Saturday. Still work to be done of course but this season is a clean slate imo. Agree there's no hiding place and no excuses if we look as moribund as we did last season or on Saturday in many more games. There will be good days and bad days but there has to be the germ of progress to inspire hope. I think so far there is, but as we saw in spring, that can get snuffed out pretty quickly.

Brown had gone and we missed him Schoolboy error. Sorry. Let’s hope the manager is able to vindicate his decision to sell.

Shouldn't be too hard, the alternative was denying a player a move to the Premier League and greatly reducing his value for a future sale given this time next year he'd be heading into the final year of his deal.

That may be true, but it’s only part of the story. If we can’t or don’t adequately replace him, and don’t show signs of improvement (or even go backwards), the decision to sell may not prove to have been a good one, or the right one. I think we need some workers in this team, we have plenty of flair but personally feel we are light on Championship experience and possibly lacking leaders on the pitch, admittedly a bit hard to say given we don’t know much about the new players. Hope we can bring some proven players in this league in before the window closes

Hope we can bring some proven players in this league in before the window closes I don't think there's ever much point in keeping a player who wants to go tbh. Agree it's all in how well you replace them, that's what's been key for the Brightons and the Brentfords. Also agree that adding a bit more grit and character wouldn't go amiss. Thinking you can get by without that was ultimately what did for Hughes.

Take time to see if the new lot are up to much - need defenders, as priority, in this window - in every position or else once again it could be another long season. Other positions also, but you have to build from the back I think they are satisfied by now. No more players until the next window. He did say there was more to come in - in this window

This is how I thought we would play from the start: disjointed and all over the place for a while until the players started getting up-to-speed with each other. We can't expect miracles, masses of changes again all over the place and yet another ground zero as we change tack for the umpteenth time - also don't think we played as woeful as some made out. However, the DNA of the team does not looked to have changed much - manager described it as rabbit in the headlights, which was a fair assessment at times - so where is this new mentality we were promised. We still cant defend a basic cross because we have no players who are good in the air - not sure how long that is going to go on for before somebody at the club realises. Other positions also, but you have to build from the back McNally was supposed to have been exceptional in the air last season. Where was he though - why was he not playing when he knows we have zero players good in the air. If he is injured or not eligible to play then still not good enough to just be relying on or having 1 player in the team good in the air
