Spread the fee over 8 years instead of the normal 4 or 5, therefore less value against the books each season. That and they've pulled a Houdini trick of getting a fortune for their 'shit'. Are any other clubs doing it? I’m not sure they are, that’s why I see it as more than a bit risky. There must be a reason why others aren’t doing it or am I being a bit daft? Not sure they are to that extent but to be honest I thought they'd stopped clubs from doing it.

Think they are being cute until they have 5 or 6 Winston Bogardes in 5 years time.
Horrible club. Not quite the cunts cunt club just yet, that's still Arsenal but they are getting closer.

Sorry this is fucking crackers. This fella has played one full season in PL, a handful in Belgium A league and a few in Ecuadorean A league and is being touted as one of the top midfielders in the world to justify the stupidity of the fee. PL football goes from mad to insane with this transfer.

PL football goes from mad to insane with this transfer. Kante was a nobody when Leicester bought him too, and won the title in his first season in the PL. Sometimes one season is all you need to showcase your talent. He was the only first team player Leicester lost that summer, and they fell apart the season after. It shows how imports t he was to them. Losing both Caicedo and Mac Alister is a massive loss to Brighton no matter how good their recruitment is, and that will be reflected in their results. In a way, it’s good that the important of defensive midfielders are being recognised with this fee. For me, it’s the most crucial position on the field, the pivot that protects defence and kickstarts attacks around which everything else flows.

has agreed an eight-year contract at Stamford Bridge and the Blues have an option of a further year.
That's just mental.
So a 9 year contract. I thought that max contract length allowed was 5 years?

Chelsea are far worse than Arsenal have ever been, for the last 20 years they’ve been the club who throws money at the problem, sacks managers on a whim, and gobbles up as many youth players they can for them to go out on loan for years and never intend for them to kick a ball for Chelsea. If I had to pick a PL club to go out of business they would be my first pick, prior to early 2000s they were never really a top club, the odd trophy, but hardly one of the greats (but during Caicedo’s lifetime I accept they could be considered as that). I hated Arsenal during Pulis’ rein but I have nothing against them these days, I wouldn’t begrudge them lifting the league title as the underdogs - I’d rather them than for it to be Chelsea/Man Utd to win it at the expense of Man City (who I also enjoy watching despite them winning too much).

I'd give you a thumbs up there, Moon, if it wasn't for that last bit about Man City Watching them in the Champions League last year was a nice break after the season Stoke had, which was taking all the enjoyment out of football for me. Always nice to see Munich and Madrid given a good hiding.

A good striker from League One can be worth £5M now. I think the Rice transfer uplifted the Caicedo price - he was rated at £80M when linked to Arsenal only as far back as January. That Kante transfer from Leicester to Chelsea now would have cost around the same as Rice - £35M now just seems like small change.

Then they had their highest ever finish and got into Europe through the front door.

Losing both Caicedo and Mac Alister is a massive loss to Brighton no matter how good their recruitment is, and that will be reflected in their results. People were making exactly the same prediction last summer, when they lost Cucurella and Bissouma and replaced them with couple of no marks named Estupinan and Caicedo! Then they had their highest ever finish and got into Europe through the front door. That’s very true, and it’s testament to Brighton’s recruitment team which surely has to be the best in the world. Hopefully this new chap from Dortmund can fill the void left by Caicedo and João Pedro brings a new dynamic to what Mac Allister had. But unless their recruitment is consistently bulletproof, it only needs one bad window for it to all fall apart. Unearthing these unknown gems for £5M is all well and good, but as they rake in more cash they need to balance that conservative strategy with speculating to accumulate and spend a bit bigger on slightly more proven players (which to be fair is what they’re doing with Pedro).

A midfield 3 of Caicedo, Fernández and Lavia could see Chelsea good for the next 10 years.
£25m/year in transfer fees over 10 years for your midfield trio wouldn't be bad value if it works out.
Net spend for the summer is around £50m so they've certainly balanced the spending in this window, but lord knows how they balance January last.

This. They’re a club that appear to get away with exploiting loop holes and bad deals / appointments by just throwing more money at the problem in the hope that eventually they’ll get it right. Nothing would make me happier than seeing City win the title for the next 5 years just to piss them off. Though City are clearly bankrolled it feels they’re a lot more canny with their deals and don’t bully other clubs by just offering more like Chelsea do and at least they do appear to have a ceiling. It does drive me up the wall that we’re so hampered on our spending by FFP yet they and other big clubs appear to be able to do what they want. I’m pretty sure the Coates’s could exploit a loophole but I just get a feeling there’s a real honesty about them in the way they do business as it should be. I just hope one day the walls come crumbling down on Chelsea but it feels like they’re just too big for that to happen now and they’re a monster. I have a feeling with De Bruyne out that they could win the league this season. It’ll be interesting to see how their new CM do. I have to say I’ve not seen enough of the 3 signings to say how good they are.

It looks like Chelsea's transfer strategy is to buy every available quality midfielder they can get their hands on so that nobody else can. Chelsea fans declare that they have made as much in sales as they have in purchases this summer, but are they really complying with FFP here?

😂😂😂 Absolute rubbish he's talking! "With Bellingham, he must have just wanted to go to Real Madrid. If Liverpool was his primary choice, it would have been done. It’s there in black and white now. He must have been seeking the sun in Spain and playing for a massive club in La Liga. Good luck to him."

If they were run as a football club then that's an argument As they are not, they will change managers multiple times in a season or three and buy yet more midfielders with at least one of those 3 shipped out on loan multiple times for the remainder of their absurdly long contract
