Not sure if this is the right place to say this but, if I live to be 105, I will never, ever, remember where I was or what I was doing when I discovered we had signed Morgan Fox. Thought you said you were knocking one out to Cilla Black and the signing put you right off. Remember you used to sing "surprise, surprise . The unexpected hits you between the eyes" right on ejacualtion Remember? Yes! I knew there was a reason Morgan Fox made me feel uncomfortable.

Shaq edges it for me. Already had Bojan & Arnie and his quality complimented them massively.
The zenith for BMX was that Anfield semi - still don’t know how ramshackle Liverpool survived. BMX would have given Citeh a hell of a game at Wembley.

Shaqiri, to sign a player like that and not at the end of his career either.
Where did it all go wrong?

No Banks certainly before Shelton How could we not be excited at signing the World Cup winning goalkeeper and the best in the world So, for me, Mathews and Banks in that order and as someone said earlier, Hudson the first time we saw him play for us.

Shaqiri and Crouch. Hendry at the time felt like a really exciting deal.

Maybe not exciting as such but when we signed Ed De Goey I couldn’t believe it. Along with Patrik Berger, and before that, when we signed Mark Walters on loan from Liverpool.

Probably Bojan.
I was well excited about Etherington too. Shaqiri. Adam. Johnson. Hoekstra. Most recently, Powell.
Players that didn't work out I was excited by: Greenacre (though he wasn't too bad and was hampered by injury I think?), Kitson, Palacios, Imbula.
Loans: Berger, Hendrie, Taggart, de Goey, Gunnlaugsson, Kippe (the days it was exciting to loan anyone from the Premier League), Stein's return.

Bojan and Shaq signings were statements.
I can also remember being quite excited by James Beattie, had a feeling he had something to prove.

Chris greenacre he was a machine for mansfield This. At the time it looked like we'd finally bought someone who could get 30 goals a season, but unfortunately the optimism was short lived. That said, I felt excited with virtually every signing during the Premier League seasons. After all the years in the wilderness it just didn't feel possible that decent players were choosing to come to Stoke.

Shaqiri - it was proof we could finally sign the best players in the world even though it didnt quite work out and he only played when he wanted to. I always, right from the minute he signed, felt that Shaqiri was using us to get a bigger move and saw himself as above us and the rest of the squad and thought he was doing us a massive favour. Despite the BMX thing I always felt he was pushing Bojan out of the spotlight and ultimately it was Bojan who was dropped.

Matthews, Violet, Banks and Hudson in the Waddington era - plus, once I had seen him play for us, Greenhoff.
In the modern era Fuller, Lawrence, Bojan and Shaqiri probably got me most excited - although Nzonzi hugely impressed me when I saw how good he was for us.

Can I be the first to say Chiquino and Videgal? Rapid Portuguese winger on each flank. Excited for the season now! I know the thought of Delap tearing the Championship to pieces excited me last year but I never lose my optimism

This. Bearing in mind we were playing what is now League 1 and he signed from Ajax, it was one hell of a signing to make (even he had suffered with injuries prior to his arrival!).

Vincent Péricard He played for Juventus and rocked up here..... That’s the subject of a new thread…..How many potential "Rock the city signings" fizzled into a damp squib? It seems to be a more modern occurrence, can’t remember any during 60s, 70s & 80s.

Lee Hendrie.
At the time it felt a massive coup given he was a proven Prem player and still only 29 or so. Gave the club a massive lift and could argue his signing was the catalyst for everything that happened the season after.
