Football team left with final message (4,4) I shuddered filling it in. Lol out extremely loud! I did that very crossword. I doubt I finished it as The Guardian can be extremely cryptic, but that clue I did get. I tend to take a different view on these matters, so my shudder factor was low if not non-existent. Excellent clue!

Football team left with final message (4,4) I shuddered filling it in. You can describe this team when a rodent chases an Irishman into a locker (6,5)

I can't work out cryptic clues to save my life Have absolutely no idea how people do it I used to feel the same but one day I resolved to figure it out and with and a bit of research and practice it doesn't take that long to get the hang of it. A lot of the clues follow very similar patterns.

I can't work out cryptic clues to save my life Have absolutely no idea how people do it I started when one of the ‘worthy broadsheets’ did a week of clue ‘splaining. It is a language in some respects and you get used to the ‘accents’ of setters. Muddle/mix/recipe (for e.g) may mean your looking for an anagram so look for something in the clue that has that many letters. Dames recipe for honey drinks….Meads The answer is usually at the start/finish of the clue. First road leads to a place in Staffordshire (5) Place in Staffs, first (one) road-street=St Answer…… Look for other meanings. Is sinister Alfred Hitchcock…..or left? Mot sure I’m explaining this well

What was the football team one? Port Vale "left" on a ship is PORT "with" "a final message" is VALE, which is a way of saying goodbye in Latin

Might as well be in heirogliphics as far as I'm concerned 🤷🏻

Football team left with final message (4,4) I shuddered filling it in. I suppose "Shitheads" from North Staffordshire would have been too easy and not really cryptic at all.

Why do I understand less about cryptic crosswords than before I opened this thread? I don't get them. I'd love to try them but I just don't understand how they work. Which is strange because I'm super intelligent.

They aren’t worth wasting your time on unless you’re a purple haired, swivel eyed woke bum with nothing else to do in between acting like a zombie in the middle of the road whilst being bankrolled by your middle class parents
