Regardless of the method it's the wrong answer Ah fuck I seen you said someone else was close with forest. But that was for the other one which was foster. Thought I had it there too even with my cheating lol. “The team” in question in my clue is the Vale, it was sort of a response to the first one.. so it’s another description of the Vale I’m after 🤓

Intrigued to know the clay dishery anal release one though! Potter...log I have no idea if that's how this works though. You need a kind of overall descriptor of the answer as well as the wordy cryptic bits. For PotterLog you could have A poster of a record by an artisan (6,3) a record = log an artisan = potter by = the words are next to each other A poster = yours truly 😇 (the overall clue) of = the overall clue is made *of* the other bits Edit; I’ll understand if you prefer the anal expulsion one though 🤣

That makes it easier already I deffo prefer my version of log.

I still don't get it, even with the answer. It’s an anagram FFS, could have made the fact that it's an anagram a bit easier. Unless 'redesigned' is a common term used in cryptic clues.

FFS, could have made the fact that it's an anagram a bit easier. Unless 'redesigned' is a common term used in cryptic clues. Anagrams are always denoted by anything that means changed/muddled/strange etc. But given your last observation about little clue words, “for” was a big giveaway in that one. It was obvious “starter” was the overall clue

No, I mean regardless of that - just looking at the clue "xxxxx for starter" already gives you the idea that the answer will be something meaning starter, and the xxxxx is the cryptic bit. Then you have to work out the anagram part, but even if you didn't notice the "redesigned", just the fact that there are 8 letters in green bin was a big hint anyway.

Ok Sheldon. 😉 I'll give it a proper go on the next one. I reckon I could be good at this.

I saw this thread and thought I would have a bash at a couple. I did ok but there are some solutions that still baffle me.
'Knut's firm refusal upset America, for one'
The solution to that was 'eponym', but I don't see how you join the dots at all.

'Knut's firm refusal upset America, for one' The solution to that was 'eponym', but I don't see how you join the dots at all. "America, for one" is the overall clue, as in America is an example of an eponym (named after Americo Vespucio) The "upset" is a clue of jumbled letters and I'm guessing firm refusal is the "nope" in eponym...] That leaves Knut for "ym", which I was confused about but I've just now realised it's the name of the crossword setter. So it's Knut's (MY) firm refusal (NOPE) upset (backwards = EPONYM) America, for one (an example of an eponym)

Not that I am an expert but I was nowhere near.
