Getting stuck into work shy fop Jese and talking about his missed pen for us,it still hurts and he wonders if he’d have scored, things may have been different. An interesting listen.

People in glass houses and all that.
I loved Charlie as a Stoke City player but he was a fat bastard at the best of times and could have been much fitter.

Heard it and he said it with remorse. Very much what ifs, but i suspect the confidence gained from a win would have saved Stoke but as we all know Stoke players made a few mistakes to give goals and points away and thus like every season what might have beens but very costly and ended a great experience playing the best teams. Dreams live on.

Sorry but I still haven’t forgiven Charlie for THAT penalty miss. Yes imo, things would have been different if he hadn’t snatched the ball from (can’t remember?) and insisted on taking it. It was an accident waiting to happen and guess what, it did. Having said that we should have had an absolutely nailed on penalty in the fracas that followed) I’m sure we would have gone on to beat Everton that day and maybe, who knows, still be in the Prem.

There were far lazier players than Charlie Adam. All this shit he gets for being fat and unfit is mainly unfounded. Going up a level, Rooney always looked “overweight”, I suppose he could have been better too? Some people just don’t look athletic, doesn’t mean they’re less fit or worse than anyone else

I think the OPs referred to work shy but Charlie referred to Jesse attitude and lifestyle whilst at Stoke just for context. Thus the difference between both players is night and day whilst at Stoke.

He was our penalty taker though, he was right to ‘insist’ on taking it. I don’t think he’d missed one before that for us. Would’ve been nice if he could’ve broken into so much as a light jog for the rebound, mind. I blame Lambert for picking him as he looked a million miles away from match fit at the time. We’d have beaten Everton in a different game if he hadn’t lunged into a brainless red card tackle in that game.

It would have made no difference to our trajectory. If not that season, we’d have gone the next. The notion that we’d have gone on to have another 5+ consecutive seasons in the premier league is far fetched.

Yeah it was the Everton game. He gave away possession which led to Newcastle scoring if I remember correctly. There was also his dreadful cameo away at Leicester. If it comes out that he had money on Leicester it wouldn't surprise me, he was disgraceful that game.

Was it Lewis Dunk, who went on to play for England, who legged Charlie over from behind as he stepped up to roll in the rebound? I remember my emotions 1. Charlie will score 2. Oh shit the keeper has parried the ball away 3. It's okay Charlie will just step up and roll the rebound in to an empty net 4. Then everything seemd to go in to slo-mo 5. Dunk carted him over from behind 6. We won't get 2 penalties 7. The rest is history Here it is...

Biggest crime wasn't missing the penalty. That can happen to the best. It was the tap in from the rebound that he managed to waddle up to and be beaten to by the defender he had a 10yd head start on.

The thing that mildly annoys me about the Everton red card was that the game was played in snow and, after a tense opening, the game had opened up into a fun passage of play. Players from both teams flew into ridiculous sliding tackles that are generally frowned upon in the modern game and it made for quite an entertaining spectacle. The referee could have blown up for any of them but waited until Charlie Adam got a stamp in on Rooney.
To be honest, I wouldn't have given a foul. The game was much better with both teams going right at it.

The notion that we’d have gone on to have another 5+ consecutive seasons in the premier league is far fetched. Agreed, we were in total free fall.. another season on the prem could of been embarrassing and painful to say the least. Great to hear the word trajectory again... not heard it since sir Gary was analysing Rorys throw ins.. 😆😆
