Doesn't really matter what we think, we aren't or won't be deciding. I feel we hung onto him for 6 months too long. I think it’s a good job we did. With the injury to Taylor, latterly Wilmot and him…er from Man Utd on loan. Who would you have played in central defence? Just asking like

He's supposedly on peanuts already and a new contract would likely be on less. He's a great pro and can still do a job if called upon. His experience around the training ground is probably worth the £4k a week that he's apparently on. Theres some merit in this If hes on minimal wages and is 2nd or 3rd back up I woukdnt have an issue with it

All teams do it. In THAT pool, Jagielka still offers good value.

I guess if it was combined with him starting to cut his teeth a bit in that area it wouldn’t be the worst idea. Not really a priority though

I'm pretty sure if he plays next season there are a few records he can break in relation to oldest outfield player at this level. Or maybe defender.
Could see him wanting to get another season in championship if so with some club

I strongly disagree. The last thread on Jagielka was started on February 16th and is buried on page 7 of the board. What's the point of dredging that up for some random unrelated content? It just makes the board more difficult to use as you then have to go through pages and pages of unrelated stuff from months ago to find out what the latest post is about. It's not uncommon that somebody resurrects a 30 page thread and then by time you get to it, people have been talking for a further three pages and you then have to scour through until you can find what they are actually talking about. The board's a much better, more accessible place when there a nice new topics when somebody has something new to say. And yes, there are obvious exceptions such as a thread for dumping all of the transfer rumours. Each to their own mate but the last post on this thread was on Apr 3rd oatcakefanzine.proboards.com/thread/307665/who-rolls-when-jagThat's what I don't get - it was over a month ago and the conversation has ended. Why bring it back? It's like that June Bellingham post that's largely messages from a discussion two years ago with some new posts tagged on somewhere near the end. It's probably just me being grumpy. I've always had a bugbear about those awful boards like the West Brom one, where everything must he put in the 78293 page official thread for any given topic. Edit: the 'today's other games' thread is the most egregious example. That thread is utterly useless, especially is you're not so bothered about other teams that you don't really know what other games are going on. What was wrong when we used to have a thread for any game that was going on?

He's a very solid player imo. We shouldn't be relying on a 40+ year old centre half but I suspect he's a top pro and clearly does a job.
Player coach? Absolutely!!!!

Loads of experience in the top flight, reads the game well,a great, competitive mentality which means he could be a positive influence on any young centre backs developing.
However if we're going with an intense pressing game as plan A,with a high back line,he just hasn't got the legs for it.

Fair enough. Wouldn’t shock me if he goes back to Derby. We’ve been so light in defence all season. Without him, we’d have been even worse off. Good luck to the man.

Amazing career and you can still see glimpses of what a quality player he is/was. I'm glad we got the chance to have him for a bit.

Great servant of the game. After a really solid start to his SCFC career he's been ropey as hell for us the last 10/12 games and age has finally caught up with him but he should be very proud of his career.......

One of very few players I’ve actually taken to over the past 6 years. His experience will be greatly missed I’m sure. Great pro and great career. Thanks Jags.

I thought he was good for another half season contract as a squad player, with the renewal option from January. I'm interested to see where he ends up next if he doesn't retire - even if he drops down a league, I don't think it'll be for a 40+ game season.

Am I wrong to suggest across the 18 months he was here, he was probably one of the better players, if not THE best?
Definitely not a player we should be keeping. He’s been looking his age since the Bristol home defeat imo.
But the upmost respect for a lad that is immensely likeable and, for a 40y/o he’s done very well indeed.
Best of luck, Jags. I’d imagine it’s retirement but he might have one last hurrah down the lower leagues in him yet.

We’d have been relegated without him.
I’d have kept him around as 4/5 choice back up to keep the player churn down by one.
Might not be our choice though, but I wish him well, we’d have been fucked without him considering he was supposed to be on an initial 6 months contract he’s been decent.

No, has been far from the biggest of issues but time to bring in a younger experienced player.
Also, before it’s suggested, I don’t want us relying on inexperienced players. There’s players out there at the right age with the requisite experience.

A good signing for where we were last season and had some really good games. Unfortunately this season he’s been exposed for lack of pace time and again. A fantastic pro and to be honest a lot of our squad would do well to aspire to his dedication to the game. Farewell Phil and well played👏🏻
