According to various press reports such as edition.cnn.com/2023/05/03/football/lionel-messi-suspended-by-psg-for-saudi-trip-spt-intl/index.html , soccer's golden boy, Leo Messi has been suspended with a further sacking pending. I don't know if this is an opportunity that PSG was just waiting for to get rid of a player who was in all likelihood leaving anyway or if this another Parisian own goal of whicvh there have been many in recent years. Messi wants to join his old club, who is keen to sign, if they can make their ends meet. This could actually be a problem for the troubled hard up Catalan club, as it was 2 years ago He didn't cost PSG anything fee-wise with only the small matter of his wages between them. Releasing him now will presumably ease the club's wage expenses considerably, perhaps enabling them to buy a number of new players with more standard wages. Still you would have thought that they would have tried to get a seller's fee for a player who can probably play another five years or more. Or if he wants to follow in Matthews' footsteps by playing into his fifties, why not do it at Sir Stan's first and last club? If he's a free, all it requires is for him to reduce his wage demands by 99% and ffp is in check... He can ask Bojan for references, which are likely to be glowing.

He was running out of contract, right? So, they wouldn’t get a fee. Perhaps he had a HUGE loyalty bonus and PSG didn’t want to pay it so have found ways to get around it? They must feel like he’s failed to be honest. Brought in to win the Champions League and they haven’t got close this year.

Isn't it more of a case he missed a days training to go and promote a rival nation? PSG are Qatar owned. This is about Middle Eastern dick waving as much as it is football.

Messi has always said he would return to Newell's Old Boys. He referred to it only a couple of years ago. But there's a complication. Somehow his area is embroiled in drug gangsters and he's frightened it could effect him and his family.

Should. Have. Come. To. Stoke.
I actually mean that entirely sincerely. The move to PSG was never about a challenge and was beneath the dignity of an all time great. A move to Stoke would be the extraordinary and romantic bookend to a great career that legends are made of. It's better than going out the Ronaldo way*.
*Assuming great footballers are motivated by glory etc and not massive bags of cash

They must feel like he’s failed to be honest. Brought in to win the Champions League and they haven’t got close this year. That's why they should have extended his contract by one year, just so they could get a fee. I'm sure that they signed that option two years ago. Purely from a business point of view. But now it makes no sense to call in that option. I have no sympathy for PSG. I'd be happy if they lose money brcause of his petulance.

Hasn’t got the bollocks to play for the only English side that could afford him Genuine world class superstars don’t come here. It’s easier on the continents He doesn't want to play for Pep again. Although Guardiola made Messi a superstar - if Messi didn't do that all by himself - but he grew tired of the coach' manic sideline instructions and coaching during the week. When he left Barca, he was very emotional and thought his world was tumbling down, but When the Barca board offered the Barca players the chance to be reunited with Pep after his sabbatical, the players including Messi rejected that idea. The Citeh players seem to be able to put up with Guardiola, who hasn't changed one bit as far as I can see from his sideline teatrics, but then I guess there are no "genuine world class superstars" at the Ethiads...

Not many world class superstars have come to the prem Some come at the end for a payday. Some become world class whilst here. The list of superstars that come in their prime is very small

There's no definitive news on Messi's next stop, but there appears to be on Benzama's. He is believed to be playing for a South Arabian club next season, because he rejected their offer of 200M euro per year in favour of 750M euro from Al Ittihad. He leaves Madrid as their alltime second biggest goalscorer behind Ronaldo, whom he might have overtaken if he'd stayed. It's a wise move, if he wants to stay in CR's good books...
It also appears to be true that Benzema will be replaced by one time Stokie, Joselu!

Replacing Benzema with Joselu is like replacing Arnautovic with Berahino I think you will find that Joselu has improved since his early days with Stoke. Berahino not so much, nor Arnie for that matter. Joselu was decent, just wasn't suited to 100mph Premier League football.

Meanwhile PSG have come up with the perfect replacement for Messi. Who might this superstar be, you might ask?
It's another Real Madrid player, Marco Asensio who was once moulded to be the perfect replacement for CR himself, till injuries set him back. It's only recently he's found his way back to something like decent form, but has found his way to the team blocked by Vinicius and Rodrigo.
Now I happen to like Asensio, who by the way was also rumoured to join Arsenal as he's available on a Bosman. Asensio has the sweetest left foot since Kevin Sheedy. But I can't help but feel that signing him with Messi and Neymar both leaving signifies one or two things. They've decided to lower their ambitions at PSg, and M'bappe doesn't want any players in the team who can upstage him.

They probably will sign Joselu, who won't cost them much or anything. But just to make sure they now want to sign Firmano too, who's of course available on a free.
As they apparently cannot afford to sign other contract players who'd cost a fee, we can deduct that they're going to break the bank just to buy Bellingham.
