Silly Lionel. Nice retirement though. Can’t really blame him. What was the better alternative? Saudi Arabia or an even bigger pay cut to stay in Europe? I think winning stuff in Europe still on big money is better. But living in Miami earning a fuck ton is great and you can’t really fault him for wanting that. I’d just want to beat every record Ronaldo has to erase him the history books 🤣🤣

Would've loved him to try and have a crack at the prem
But, flip side, I cannot blame him for the contract he's secured at Miami. He's getting shares in Apple as part of the move thanks to an MLS deal, he's going to be set for a 1000 lifetimes.

Miami is also a shithole once you get outside of the multi-million dollar gated, waterfront mansions, which he will have no need or desire to do. Not a bad place to retire with his billions.

Messi said one reason he chose MLS is that he doesn't want to be in the spotlight as much as he is in Europe. In the United States he won't be recognized and stalked by fans all the time.
Miami is an interesting choice. A lot of people will recognize him in Miami because there is a large Latino population, but it won't be everyone.
If he drives a few hours north, which I understand seems like a long drive to Englishmen but is nothing for Americans, he could probably throw on a baseball hat and go grocery shopping without being recognized. Or if he's recognized, it will be one person asking for an autograph rather than the whole store descending on him.
Miami also has a very large Spanish speaking population, so his inability to speak English won't be a problem. In fact, around 70% of people in Miami speak Spanish as their primary language.
I wouldn't be surprised if he buys an island in the Bahamas which is a short hop from Miami.

Effectively retired while being paid a million or so a week to play in a league where he could probably do it half asleep.
After winning the WC this season and everything else in his career, why wouldn't you wind down at your leisure.
Can't have much motivation left, surely, and if someone's daft enough to give him the money, well, we'd all take it I'm sure!

That's true in the panhandle, but I wouldn't think it's true in Miami-Dade County.

Ha. Good luck to him. I’m sure he will love Miami if his goal is to become less visible. All he needs to do is wait a few games for the fever to die off, then change his hair and beard.
Soccer in the US comes into the average conversation after:
NFL College Football College basketball NBA Baseball NHL
It’s more in line with golf.
That won’t be the same in Miami, with a high latinX population but it won’t be far off. MLS attendances are not bad but there are very few teams and they are all in big cities.

He already has had some property in Florida for some time - don't know exactly where - so choosing Miami may have been pre-planned, if a footy deal could conveniently be arranged and now it has been. But as the MLS closes down for several months in the winter, he could still play for Stoke for some games, maybe 15-20, for some added peanuts. He's probably on the phone with Shawcross as we speak to have him put in a good word for Leo to the next Stoke manager.

Only two or three people asked for selfies. It must have been refreshing for him to be able to do something so mundane without being hounded. A picture of his cart shows a jumbo box of Lucky Charms.

Glad he isn't going Saudi Arabia. Good decision Messo! Probably his next stop, if there is one. I'm glad he didn't sign for one of the Russian oligarchs' clubs.
