My father in law was in the Liverpool end at that game. The story of his day is startling scary. He's not been a game since.

RIP the 97 It was my 11th birthday party, my dad booked an hour at the 5-a-side pitch at the old Boothen sports centre behind the Vic to play a match with some mates. Vividly remember the voices on the radio in the car on the way back and my dad trying his best to disguise his sombre mood for my sake. Just a shocking, shocking tragedy.

Agree. It'd be good if the decent majority reclaim this issue.

So tomorrow 13th April 2024 marks the 35th Anniversary of The Hillsborough Tradgedy by day (Saturday) with the actual date of 15th April falling on Monday.
Not sure what or if Sheffield Wednesday may do to acknowledge this occasion by virtue of it being the 35th anniversary, but if they do can we as Stoke Fans who will be occupying the Leppings Lane End at this most poignant time adhere to whatever it is asked of the stadium whether it be silence or applause, I don't know.
Thought it important to mention this so that if it is marked in any way, at least Stokies can spread the word around so people aren't 2nd guessing what may or may not be taking place, especially if filtering out of the concourses after a few beers.
Football allegiances, politics, blame, opinions don't really matter tomorrow, we as fans are occupying the same area where 35yrs previous, fans attended to watch a match just like we will be tomorrow.
97 fans never made it home and many more suffered injuries that prevented them returning home for quite some time. Not saying let's not create an atmosphere tomorrow as I'm sure due to the match up and the league cirqs Hillsborough will be rocking for the right reasons, but just a friendly reminder Stokies, if the anniversary is acknowledged in anyway, let's represent our club the right way and honour those fellow football fans who sadly lost their lives that very day in 1989.

Good article on the Beeb website about the Forest fans who were there that day. How theyve almost become forgotten over the years despite witnessing the horific events. Some of them have suffered tremendously. Seems the campaign group have reached out to them in recent years and they are now getting the support they need. If I coukd post links I would do

Watched it unfold for 10 minutes then knocked on my mates and said let’s go play footbal as Liverpool and Notts Forest were having a scrap. Spent the next 2 hours dribbling a mitre delta cosmic around white dogs turds. Obviously the mood changed when I went home for crispy pancakes, smiley faces and beans when I realised what was going on. Arctic roll for pudding and a soda stream accompaniment

Oddly I never saw that footage again I bought some crispy pancakes from Iceland the other day . Was shocked to see them on line

I must have been listening on the wireless whilst watching Grandstand then. A truly harrowing scene thinking back

I must have been listening on the wireless whilst watching Grandstand then. A truly harrowing scene thinking back If you're able to locate the tribute to John Motson TV show that was played just after he passed it highlights a bit more how that fateful day played out and how it was he, Des Lynam & I think it was Jimmy Hill covered the match from behind the scenes footage and audio. Guessing back then it would have been covered and shown on BBC MoTD on the later evening back in 1989. But as it was a developing story & the seriousness was becoming apparent Grandstand were able to go live to the coverage and it was reported on accordingly. I recall the same happening for with the live footage being shown of the Bradford City fire when that took hold on Grandstand. There was no live Sky News footage around back then so it was either the radio (wireless) or counting on news flashes on normal terrestrial TV. Ironically enough in the pre game run through they show some footage where Motson is practicing his Mic & introduction work and he even talks about how the centre pen is looking very busy & congested and the two end ones are sparcely populated as the cameraman pans around & zooms in practicing the camera pre may have camera work as well. Little did they know they what was about to unfold and how their earlier observations were to come under the utmost scrutiny. Well worth a watch if either like John Motson in general or as it shows alot of un seen footage about that day at Hillsborough as well as other bits and pieces worthy of watching concerning his career.

I was at Bournemouth watching Stoke demolish the Cherries 1-0 (from an own goal by their keeper from a hopeful deep cross). It was a stag do and watching the footie kept us briefly sober. The news of Hillsborough filtered through which changed the atmosphere. It was a dreadful tragedy and a day rat will never be forgotten.

As a schoolboy at the time, my old man would take me to a "first division" game when it was too far to go to a stoke away match and Bournemouth away was a non starter that day. Instead he took me to Old Trafford to watch the shit v Derby. I can vividly recall the ground being half empty and the United fans around me giving Ferguson a torrent of abuse as United lost 2-0. They were out for his blood at the time.
One memory of the day always stays with me though. At half time, the announcer interrupted the music etc to say that the semi final at Hillsborough had been postponed because of fatalities in the crowd. The most surreal moment then followed as the United fans cheered as they hated scousers and the Derby fans cheered as it could have been fatalities amongst their sworn enemies Forest. Both sets of fans then launched into their chants of "we hate scousers", "we hate Forest" respectively.
Of course, no one in the ground could have known the magnitude of the tragedy at that moment but I can remember being taken aback by the cheering when the word fatalities had clearly been used on the tannoy.
A truly surreal moment.

It was harrowing enough seeing it on the telly as a 14 year old. I had tears in my eyes reading the BBC article.
