I think the difference is some of us in that older generation don't get the idea of "accept" when it comes to supporting their club. Finding the team "unacceptable" is such a consumerist take on being a supporter. A football team isn't a washing machine. If you buy a washing machine and it doesn't wash properly then fair enough to call it unacceptable because that was a condition of purchase. When you choose to support a football team and buy a ticket you don't get any guarantees they will be any good. In fact as football is a sport it's impossible - not everyone can win the league and in any given year some teams are going to be worse than others. Being good isn't a condition of the relationship you entered into when you signed up to support the club. If you find what you are getting unacceptable the only option you have is to walk away because the club can only be what they are at any point in time. We have been a lot better and we have been a lot worse and currently we are a bit crap. The idea I should find this "unacceptable" just strikes me as a bit weird. To me they are just a bit crap and flouncing around proclaiming it's all just so "unacceptable" strikes me as a bit Little Lord Fauntleroy complaining about a soggy rusk and doesn't make a blind bit of difference anyway - they only way I can't make them any better is by getting behind them. You know - support them. It’s all semantics really but I read the ‘unacceptable’ thing as more irritation/anger at how completely unnecessary our decline has been and how little prospect there is of us arresting it. I think whatever word people use to articulate that feeling, the feeling of frustration itself is understandable. To be a bit crap from the position we were in and the advantages we have is down to complete incompetence and a broken model. If that's what's meant then yes I agree - but I'm not convinced that's how "acceptable" is being used. I think there is a sense of "the club isn't delivering at the level I expect and deserve". The thing is every supporter at every club can say exactly the same thing with equal conviction and justification but not everyone can get what they "expect and deserve" because there are going to be winners and losers. In fact what you actually deserve is reflected in your club's league position - we are where we are because the team is a bit crap at the moment. The idea that we were once Premier League so deserve better makes me a bit queasy - especially as we used to (quite rightly) laugh at supporters who used to do that. I think we are suffering from Premier League syndrome - the footballing equivalent of long covid.

I've been following stoke since 1986 from the age of 7 and to me this team is the worst. Even worse than the Brian little team

There's not much to choose between them though

Yes, we are bad Yes, it is incredibly frustrating to support us But come on, if you have supported Stoke longer than the Premier League years, to say this team is the worst we have had is beyond laughable! If you don't know the names, Kofi, Martin or Clayton then you really have no idea as to how bad we have been Wake up, frankly.. you can debate that it's not quite the very worst we've seen but "beyond laughable?" The team is in serious danger of relegation from the second division, by definition they're in the conversation.

Christ ,Lee Fowler ,there's a name I'd forgotten about. Am I dreaming or did either Mills or Ball decide it was a good idea to play him as a centre back once or twice ? I think he did play centre half a couple of times. 🤦♂️ Alongside Andy Holmes. What a time that was!

In the 90s and early 2000s we were often worse than this, yes. But we were also often better. It was if nothing else quite an eventful period. I'm not misty eyed for those day or anything mind, relegation now would be a disaster. But this feels just like the same mind numbing crap year on year. It's just so damm tedious. This is the problem for me. Some absolute clowns have played for this club over the years, but usually they disappeared after a few games (and got replaced by another clown, but at least it was a different clown). Whereas today I feel like I'm in that episode of Black Mirror where every second feels like an hour, and every hour feels like a year, and every year feels like a century, and for the whole of eternity I have been watching Morgan Fox trundle slowly down the wing and whack the ball aimlessly over everyone's head, under no pressure from anyone, and then trudge back to the halfway line to do the same thing again two minutes later, and we lose 1-0 to Blackpool/Bristol City/Birmingham/Coventry/Preston/Luton/Rotherham/Barnsley/Cardiff/Sunderland/QPR.
