Burnley were a good side- you'd have to be fucking drunk to think otherwise. They moved the ball around very well- quick, assured passing throughout the team, and once they went 1-0 up they easily kept us at arms length. We actually looked more like scoring than them in the first half, but weren't at the races in the second. Burnley are a good side at this level, I agree, but let's not pretend they played anywhere near their top level tonight. All this assured, quick passing you talk of was done in their own half and a team more adept at the pressing game, which we obviously tried to play (poorly) would have got something out of that game tonight. There were a few times where their "assured" passing went astray and a better team than us would have punished them. By championship standards their passing was good. I'm not saying they were the reincarnation of Iniesta and Xavi's Spain, but most teams at this level can't manage 3 passes without some fucking carthorse shinning it out for a throw in. Burnley were a cut above that, but of course a side playing out from the back at this level aren't going to be perfect, and we did win the ball off them a few times. A better side than us might have punished them, certainly. I'd say they're up there with West Brom and Middlesbrough as the best sides we've seen at the bet365 this season though. (I didn't see the Watford game when we got spanked 0-4)

Fucking rubbish. They didn’t even turn up and we somehow contrived to lose.
Awful management. Might as well have kept MON.

As far as a spectacle and an advert for the Championship that has to be one the direst games of football I have ever witnessed. The last 20 mins hands down the biggest load of shit you could possibly feast your eyes on. If the ball spent 10% of the time on the floor I would be amazed and it was Sunday league stuff and shit Sunday league stuff at that.
I really don't know where we go from here, I suppose we just have to hope we come out the right side of the requisite number of games to stay up from those that remain. We are going to have to battle our way to safety as I can't see us suddenly becoming a composed, free flowing and free scoring team. We seriously need to cut out the mistakes at the back though as we are basically tying our hands behind our backs when we concede so easily and can't seem to buy a goal.

I’ve seen Burnley a fair bit this season and that was by far the worst I’ve seen them play. I think even Rotherham created more when they came here.
They were there for taking tonight but we didn’t show even the tiniest ounce of courage or ambition to try and win it.

Kompany saying this was Burnley's 'biggest win of the season' I should think so. They would have gone back up the motorway rubbing their chests with a nil-nil point but we typically manged to gift them all three. They're a good side but I think they're surprised they won that one. They were nothing special at all on the night until Harry Clarke decided to kick a ball like a two year old fanny into his own keepers back. Fucking useless.

We don’t seem to have a clue …we are useless in front of goal and woeful in defence ..no leadership on the pitch. Do they want to go down ? Because they certainly don’t look like they want to fight to win a match . I can’t get my head round why we can’t get a decent shot on target hit with pace at the opposition goal …..any aggression on the pitch is usually hand bagging over grabbing the football off the opposition so we can take a quick throw in or stopping them taking a quick throw in. Resulting often in a needless yellow card..
What do we practice in training ? Because whatever it is we need to practice something else, because whatever we do in training clearly doesn’t cover the basics of the game, which is score more goals than your opponent. Every game it’s a different formation, different players ….I’m confused trying to figure out what’s going on, the players are clearly confused….it’s as though we could have a brilliant team cruising up the table in theory, but we seem to be intent on some sort of self destruction. For heavens sake Stoke get a grip ! It’s football ffs not quantum physics.

Please do not try and say that we were the better team 😂😂😂😂😂😂😴 Perhaps not the better team in terms of skill, passing, technically etc but in terms of carrying out a game plan which was working we were the far more effective team until the panic for the goal. They wouldn't have scored but for that one piece of calamitous defending/goalkeeping. What is a far bigger joke is that that Burnley team are 23 points and seventeen places better than Stoke. You can't say luck doesn't play a part over a season when you consider that. They made a couple of equally calamitous mistakes defensively but got away with them. It's a joke how often we lose to our one moment of madness.

It was almost as if they have been told that they can't make a pass that is longer than five yards. It was mind numbingly boring most of the match. And don't get me started on their pretentious warm up routine at half time while Stoke, who'd already waited three minutes for them to reappear from the dressing room, had to stand and watch.

First half we looked OK (OK not good) but second half was a complete and utter shambles. We dropped off 20 yards as a starter. Why? Toothless up front, mistake ridden at the back, creating zero, no leadership, no drive, no enthusiasm and worse than no commitment whatsoever. EXAMPLE, Campbell was 60/40 favourite to win the one on one with their keeper in the box but completely bottled it. Atrocious play and yet he was left on for the full 90 minutes. Why? How? I really am falling out of love for the team that I have been watching now for 68 years. And I genuinely cannot see what can be done to improve it. We've changed managers, countless players and it is still absolute garbage.

1st half I thought Neil got it tactically spot on 2nd half our players faded and at the time I thought we had a few minutes of momentum our 3 subs killed it🤔 A very frustrating night all round Interestingly Kompany made his first two subs on 52mins, he decided to mix things up early on, whether tactically he'd seen a change was needed or just decided to deploy a different approach to thwart us, either way his decisive management decision making process and adopted style is clearly helping Burnley on the upward trajectory to gaining promotion at their first attempt. Exactly the opposite to what Stoke have achieved since being relegated. & a defined style combining a winning formula we've seriously lacked for the last few seasons. The defeat to Burnley seemed harder to take as they are an example of what we should have been.

Not for one millisecond did I imagine we would win that match last night and frankly I’m not sure we ever set out to. If the plan was to try and drag the standard of the game to as low a level as possible and hope to squeeze a 0-0 out of it then I guess you could say , apart from the usual moment of utter incompetence, we were the better team as we managed to impose our will on the game.

A pound shop Man City. Thought they were shit - same as at Turf Moor. They created next to nothing with 95% possession. Frustration was we never laid a glove on them. Don't anyone try say they didn't have to try. They were shit. If that's the best in the league it shows how poor the standard is. We will turn the corner I'm sure.

I was going to post last night but thought I would let it settle in a bit more.
I genuinely don’t understand our style of play (at all) if I had to summarise it, seems to be give the ball to Wilmott, hit it long to a striker who cannot head a ball, win the second ball and we don’t win the second ball either, possession turnover. Same applies to Souttar, how many long balls did he play to nobody last night?
The wing backs are redundant, Tymon was so ineffective last night. Never got the ball in any space to run at their defender.
The midfield don’t get the ball from the centre halves or create anything, Thompson gets it and only passes one way, backwards for his opta stats.
As for Smallbone did a lot of closing down but he was always 2 yards off the pace and actually never did anything at all, I could go on. But the main concern is our identity, I know they are top of the league and even that baffled me as they were no great shakes.
Are we a long diagonal ball playing team who want to pick up the second ball and try and play in their half but with players who can’t do it? If so, I’m bamboozled, Campbell and brown can’t head a ball save their lives and the midfield are so deep they’re at least 25 yards away from picking up a second ball.
I’ve had a moan, but i genuinely don’t know what the answer is anymore. It’s laughable how we couldn’t score from 1 yard out in the first half, I just laugh cos it’s not just on one occasion.
Anyway, I’ve said my piece, the tactics in my opinion are not suiting the players , we’d be better playing counter attack football, not this diagonal long ball crap to no one! But that’s Neil and his team to figure out, I’m sure the players are not that daft they will start to think what the fuck are we doing.

I honestly think some posters here are very black and white when they assess a game. We played the best team in the division last night and nobody could have complained if we had won the game. Burnley didn't really have more than one clean shot on goal and that was a freekick straight into the arms of Bonham. Their goal was very fortunate or should I say clumsy by Clarke. He really should be able to do better there. Anyway, that was really what Burnley created against us over 90 minutes + added time. We on the other hand had a good chance when their keeper passed the ball straight to Ty who spoiled the chance by using too much time on the ball. We also had the biggest chance of the game when Fox just pulled the trigger instead of sending the ball into the roof of the net. We also created a couple of good chances in the second half, but both Campbell and Brown hesitated too long and the chances were gone. People are very negative because of the disappointment of another defeat, but we actually played a good game and were unfortunate not to take anything from the game. Unfortunately this seems to be the case in most games for us this season, we play well for long spells, we create chances and we don't give too many chances away. Still we lose or draw when we feel we should have taken all the 3 points. This is both disappointing and frustrating, but in reality we aren't too far away from having a team able to compete for a playoff spot. Despite of this we need at least a striker able to convert chances into goals in the January window.

That's not what the boro reporter was saying on the radio yesterday. He said they were doing the basics right and just doing enough to win. He said carrick will want them to play good football but for now until he gets new players he'll keep grinding results.

They are way ahead of every team but one in the division and cantered to a 3-0 win the other day. The quality of their bench demonstrates the resources they have available. They didn’t play well because we stopped them playing - our shape and tactics in the first half were excellent. Neil recognised he didn’t have a midfield to compete (if Powell and Laurent were 100% we could have got closer) and relied on going long to a mobile front three. Campbell and Fox should have scored first half and Campbell and Brown were too nice second half. The goal came partly because the players lost discipline as the crowd encouraged them to chase the ball during a long period of possession, partly because Souttar got into a tangle and partly due to panic. Other than that they never really threatened.
