I don’t think football was ever intended to be a game of millimeters. If we have to have VAR, then let’s limit its use to a set of specific pre-defined circumstances. Otherwise, there’s no longer any need for referees and linesmen and speaking as a former referee, I would hate that.

Is something for years that was needed in the game but if going to use it for offsides/goal lines calls etc then it's one way or the other with no wiggle room The game is way too fast to some calls these days and would rather technology calling it than the current equivalent of a Rob Styles. I think the call for Japan today for me proved why it's 100% needed. It could change the face of football to an extent for a country if a team does well in a tournament rather than be sent home for an incorrect call. The profile of football in Japan is probably at its highest ever tonight

I'm a Debbie Downer here, but it must be pointed out: As a comparison, the NFL has had "Instant Replay" since 1986. It took them years of haggling over the "clear and obvious" principle and work out what was "reviewable" or not and yet even today, calls STILL get blown 36 years down the road. That's because humans are still involved with it. Officials get full of themselves and refuse to go against their own ego. Before anyone assumes I want to go all "robotic" - if you eliminate the humans, then Man City will just hack it. Debbie Downer. Was that the sequel to Debbie Does Dallas?

It's just a shame footballs didn't have chips in them when Neville Southall was in goal for us. He'd have saved everything. Yep he'd have been different gravy.

Another "franchise" ruined by spin-offs, like the Norwegian version Debbie Does Dunderland

Debbie Downer. Was that the sequel to Debbie Does Dallas? Another "franchise" ruined by spin-offs, like the Norwegian version Debbie Does Dunderland Coincidentally, I stumbled across an ancient Columbo the other day. It turned on the blackmail of a ruthless and ambitious TV presenter, who had in his younger days appeared in an "art" film. The title of the film was Holly Does Houston. I absolutely love Columbo. Arguably it was ahead of the VAR curve, because a recurrent theme was some grainy CCTV footage which Peter Falk views over and over - before identifying an inconsistency and catching the villain out.

why not treat offside the same as everything else it has to be a clear and obvious error by the lino, set the parameters at say for arguments sake 15 inches under= goal over = offside simples.
