I don’t know if the defenders or keepers are getting better or we are just woeful. It’s a pity we can’t play us at least twice a season we would be near top then. It would be interesting to see percentages of shots scored past us with our keepers

However most/all other Championship sides are perfectly capable of being similar, rare for a Championship side to go two matches without giving a very soft goal away which is partly why everyone bar Burnley can't put any kind of run together last week Cardiff made two defensive howlers Neither of which we scored from, one of which ended with them breaking and scoring themselves A moderate improvement would see us shoot up the table A moderate worsening and we will go down

There has to be a level of concentration and control, not just do it for four passes then hoof it into touch or the opponents center half.

I would say more the keeper’s at fault than defence. If we still had Davies we would be in top half

Any manager (Including ours) espousing this "playing out of the back" needs slapped across the jowls repeatedly. You don't "threaten" the opposition by passing around in your own end. That back-pass to the keeper - I'd seriously consider FINING players for it. Then that "lump" forward is often a "kick the hell out of it and duck" rather than a legitimate "pass." We don't have forwards skilled enough to knock down a 65-yard "pass" and finish it. There's no Wayne Rooney on the other end launching into a bicycle kick for a goal. It's a plague on the game and a chickenshit tactic that good defensive teams will rightly jump all over and take advantage of. I would love defending against a team trying to do this. Put 4 or 5 forward and press them - all it takes is one bad pass and you're in. You want to beat a team? Spend as much of the game playing on THEIR end as you can. The backpass to the keeper is as useful as a fanny-pack or man-bun.

It would be interesting to see percentages of shots scored past us with our keepers It certainly isn't the opposition keepers getting better. Most of them could string a hammock up between the posts and spend the afternoon reading the paper. If the weather had been as cold on match days as it has been for the last couple of days they would have been in more danger of hypothermia than conceding a goal.

Also just as true , but less often noted , knocking it around at the back, makes it less likely you will score at the other end. Brian Clough said Peter Taylor ( a goalkeeper) told him the longer you take getting the ball into the opposition box the easier it is for them to defend against and the easier for the keeper to deal with. Not being a goalie ( he was a striker) Clough decided to just believe him ,and go with that idea ,as made sense . Very hard to see the logic in knocking the ball around in front of your own penalty box ,in order to put yourself under pressure at your end of the pitch AND make it less likely you will score at the other end.

What’s the range re that stat? Being on 7% when so many are on 8% doesn’t look that bad tbh.

Football works on such fine margins at times, imagine how different things might've been if one of those early disallowed goals from Gayle had counted...

If a player shoots at goal from 25 yards does that count as a chance because he shot? To count a tap in, a penalty, a shot from an angle and a sight at goal from distance etc as equal chances is nonsense. Meaningless stat without that information. EDIT I notice it's shots taken but even so that means if you are taking shots from distance which we seem to do your chances of scoring must be low. We rarely seem to get a tap in but have plenty of scrambles on the goal line w hen 3 or 4 shots fail to reach the net - do they all count as 4 shots with no successes?

So the upshot is that none of our attacking players are doing well, including Campbell. We concede first more than most and we don’t do too well in between our own sticks.
Explains why we are where we are I suppose!

Damming Stats reached the pinnacle of their popularity back in the mid-80's. A Punk band, as the label was applied to them. Known for sparking altercations at their gigs, especially from Port Vail fans during songs like, "Take a Dammed Bath!" and "Quit Sleepin With Grandma!," "Brain Dead Trash Eater" and the like...
Long story short, rumor surfaced just a couple of months ago that they had reunited and were in negotiations with Stoke City Football Club for the position of House Band in Ricardo's. Certainly a most unexpected turn of events. Snot Beckenbauer, the lead singer claims that the band has completely evolved their sound these days and are no longer considered a "punk" act.
Famous for their middle-finger snub of refusing to open for World of Twist in 1984, the band photographer sending a group shot of them flipping off the camera to the press, prompting bans from several newspapers round the area.
They may need management - anybody have Smurthwaite's number?

Sorry to be pedantic, but I think you'll find that the name of the band was 'Damning Stats', and indeed the band I was playing with at the time did a triple header with them and the World of Twist at Katz Wine Bar in 1989...

It’d be interesting to see the stat in the op now. Since it’s been posted Brown, Delap and Campbell have been relatively clinical.

Stats are the be all and end all of everything in football and are the basis of almost every big money transfer these days. 2. Stats are meaningless when you look at the value someone like Mamma brought to the team.
