Loan numbers building? Something has to give? We're surreptitiously creating another Arsene Wenger model "Rugby" team", once we have the players.

Sam 'Placeholder' Clucas out the door? PLIBT. I thought he actually (after a poor first half) played well last night & he (like all of them) ran his socks off at Blackburn looked like he could be of any use Two things - last night I only watched on the internet so may have missed some of his off camera work so to speak and secondly, I confess, I've got a total blind spot with him now. I just can't see what he offers in terms of building attacks. I can't remember the last time he made a positive contribution. Perhaps he's a bit of a Glenn Whelan - an unrecognised essential asset - or maybe, I dunno. I just don't see what he brings to the party. I was dumbfounded by his selection against Millwall and whilst we were a total shower that day, he stood out as particularly ineffective, and kind of in his defence, looked like the kid that didn't want to be at the party.

If he starts enjoying football again which I honestly suspect he doesn't.

He doesn't look fit. Whether his legs have gone or it's lack of conditioning I don't know. He generally plays well against old clubs - last night excepted - which makes you wonder why he can't get motivated for 'normal' games. He's quick to point the finger at everyone else but himself which is not a great trait. On his day he is a good player - it's just not his day very often. He's no Glenn Whelan.

Completely different player to Whelan. His best asset was he was arriving late in the box and scoring. It was clear from his previous form that that was a blip. Baker does that role better now. That Clucas always plays better against old clubs pisses me off no end to be honest.

Sterling won't be the only business we do today. True we might sell some tickets for the next home game.

When Clarke gets back, are we going to have two loan players for the right back slot?
That seems like a waste of resources.

Given that he only contributes properly in 4 games a season and is less than average for the remainder, I’d be happy to take that hit.

With Clarke’s injury we need another right-back and it’s not like we can pay a fee for a decent one so the loan of Sterling makes sense really. Makes a complete mockery of the decision to give Duhaney another contract though.

Perfect signing just what we need. I wonder if one of the other loan players will be sent back to accommodate as we have too many for the matchday squad when all fit? No surprise if Kilkenny left today. I would move Smallbone out too. On what basis do you think we can send them back? A loan is a fixed term contractual agreement between two clubs and the player - some agreements have a call back clause but I'm not aware of any agreements that allow a club to simply send a player back.

Surprised Chelsea are sending him to us after spending big on him

Fingers crossed this one gets done, just what we've been missing down that side. Hopefully will link up well with Fosu, or release him over to the left attacking side as one of a few options

Too small lacks physicality, we shouldn’t have signed him. Just like Kante - will never make it. There are plenty of very effective (and physically aggressive) midfielders who aren't very big and some monsters who are powder puff and useless.

I think we should avoid both of them. So if given the option of a small midfielder with good stats and a proven track record you would go for a bigger one as a point of principle? I get the need for a decent sized goalkeeper, centre backs and an old school centre forward but it's never been the case that size is that important in the midfield - in fact some if the best over the years have been quite small.

Re sending loans back, didn't Sheffield Utd cancel Rees Norrington-Davies's loan at Luton so he could come here on loan?
And didn't Southampton cut loan of Osterguard(?) so he could go to Spain or somewhere?

Or sell Thompson and Clucas? Who is going to buy Clucas? Excellent solution but improbable. Sorry, Smallbone and Kilkenny should both leave today. Yeah cause sending 2 loan players back a month after signing them would be great for our prospects of getting future players in on loan, wouldn’t it. Plus Smallbone changed the game yesterday when he came on along with Fosu, and should be starting every game at least until Powell is back.

Even if it was as easy as sending loan players back to their clubs because they're not playing well or we think can get somebody else in who we think is better, it hardly paints us in a good light and could well damage future prospects of doing business with clubs we'd probably piss off.

Sterling can play right and left back, so can cover both sides and provide proper competition to Clarke when he’s back aswell.

Ostigaad was Brighton and who instigated his return who knows I think it suited all parties can't imagine the player was too happy with MON's cold shoulder. As for the returns they weren't in the same window as they joined, I've yet to see an example of one cancelled during the same window.
