Raw but to be honest he's been very disappointing. As others have said lacks intelligence. I'm also surprised how poor his touch is coming from Man City. He'll develop but I can't see him doing anything in The Prem. We don't have one decent forward on the books. Just how I see it as well. Some players blossom late but so far I’m struggling to understand the hype surrounding him before he joined.

He's a glorified Gary Madine (without the goals)

Ferfuxache, I've said it before and I'll say it again... the lad is 19 years old and is discovering that playing for Man City U-21's and in The Championship are worlds apart. He should be coming on from the bench and not starting games. Brown is a far better option as a starter. It's also not helping that Tyrese is playing shit at the moment. It's no wonder we're toothless up front playing a novice and a player who is not a shadow of his former self since that awful injury. It's not fair on Delap to expect anything else. AN is doing him no favours and if I was Pep, I'd be taking him back in January.

Harry Kane didn't do alot in his early career in loan spells. Now I'm not saying Delap is going to match Kanes level in the future but he is a young lad here to gain experience. He was never going to be the finished article that is why he is here but he is obviously highly thought of at man city or they would have offloaded him for the fee when Southampton came calling. I think to pin all our hopes on him banging them in for us was a longshot but let's be honest none of our strikers are doing anything either so we are pretty stuck for goals which is a big big worry.

What a thread to write off a 19yr old who gets virtually no service or chances...

But should anyone care what he will do in the future? I care what he is doing for the club now. It’s different, caring about the development of young Stoke players. The more games they get, the more support, the better they should become. With Delap, we are paying to develop him and he is not performing anywhere close to a good level. So what if he comes good in three or four years?

Basically it wasn't the wisest decision by the club to pin all our goalscoring hopes on him.

I think playing youth football and u23s he would be much stronger than his peers and his strength and power were a massive asset. Now he is playing against men he has lost that advantage and the rest of his game needs a lot of work.
His first touch, movement and decision making are poor. It doesn't help that he is playing in a team that creates next to nothing either.
This loan is doing neither him or us or Man City any good. Hopefully we can reach agreement with Man City about returning him in January. This can only be harming is value as an asset to them.

Brown was top scorer last season and still in contention, Campbell should be back to scoring, Gayle as a proven Champo player came in, then there’s Delap. We should have goals coming from those strikers. Sadly it isn’t happening

He can't trap a bag of cement and on the basis that won't change he's probably looking at Championship maximum.

I think the club were expecting alot from delap for such a young player with little experience of men's football though.

Young, raw , trying to be a battering ram, but truly ineffective . Not ready for this level. Last season’s top scorer Brown imo should be playing instead of this fellow.

Reminds me of Che Adams when he first went into the Prem. Very raw, quite naive and tries too hard at times.
Some were predicting crazy scoring figures, we saw the same with a young Campbell but was never going to happen. A couple of years may see him be a regular scorer and will learn . Gets involved with his marker way too much and can see he's struggling v an experienced CB way too much

I don't think giving Delap a run out in a couple of the upcoming U21 fixtures would do him any harm, just to get him scoring goals again in a competitive match environment. Match against Hertha Berlin at the Bet365 on Tuesday eve is a possibility. Then Arsenal on Saturday. Not sure when they're due to go away but keeping him match fit & to get him putting the ball into the net could well be beneficial.

My thought is that you can see why Delap was quality at junior and youth level
His game is about bullying the opposition, when your a big strapping lad playing under 16s, under 18s and youth its one thing.
Once you step up to senior level and you are up against powerful wily defenders such as Batth, Bartley, Matt Clarke or Lenihan there is no way bullying them will work
Delap needs to change his game, use his feet more

I would leave him well clear of the U21's as that will hinder and hamper our own good players coming through like Tezgel, Griffiths, Lowe and McGuinness? So you don't want a player who is struggling to established himself in the first team from blocking our own youngsters who aren't as good as him from having the opportunity to struggle even more in the first team? The problem isn't with Delap - it's the sentimental demand to play youngsters rather than seasoned pros and a lack of appreciation of the the massive gap between U21 and senior football that's the issue. Personally I think Delap is going well for a 19 year old. There are clearly massive gaps in his game and he looks out of his depth at times simply because at his age and level of experience that's what he is. He's not helped by the fact that we aren't creating any chances and all of our other strikers are struggling for the same reason. The hype around Delap was ridiculous - if he makes a contribution this season it should be seen as a bonus not an expectation. And if we do replace him it should be with someone equipped to deal with senior football not another rookie.

If Southampton offered £20m for him, Man City should have snapped their fingers off,on his showing in the Championship he can't be worth more than £5m.maybe not even that much.

Yes I think that provides a fair context for discussion. If FFP would allow us to buy him for £5-£8 milionish in January, would we make that sort of offer to Citeh? I'm far from sure that we would.

I'm sure pep would have took the 20m if they thought he was as shit as this board think. I tend to believe peps view of players than this message board.

All our strikers are playing abysmally. Even Brown from the bench has been garbage since his injury. However, I'm not sure it's them that's the problem or everything around them.
Again, how many chances are any of them getting? All they seem to be doing is getting the ball miles from goal and trying to make something happen. Granted, they aren't doing that part very well either but are any of them actually playing like a striker? Look at their lad on Saturday, he stayed central and caused us problems just because of his positioning. Ours are here, there and everywhere but doing absolutely fuck all.
We've not had a good, "proper" striker for 10-15 years (probably longer). Is there another club anywhere, where getting 20 goals a season is so unfeasible?

My point was more to do with us than them though ... hypothetically, if WE had £5-8m to spend on a player this January and Citeh would be prepared to accept that amount, then I'd be very surprised if we would be making an offer for him.
