Going tomorrow night. Looking forward to it I hope you enjoy it. It's not just an ordinary night. I am reliably informed that Rowan Williams, former Archbishop of Canterbury, is turning up to watch the show and bless the new theatre ! although I'm not quite sure if the blessing will take place in front of the audience. Nello is (of course) a "very good friend" of Rowan. You can read about how they met in our book. In 2020 Keele was due to hold a service of thanksgiving for Neil's 60 years "at Keele" with the sermon preached by Rowan Williams. COVID stopped that but the University held it earlier this year, and Rowan Williams came up specially from his home in Cardiff to attend and preach (why should we be surprised ?? ). I counted 7 current or retired bishops there and any number of 'ordinary' clergy. They used the printed order of service from 2020 which included a duet between Nello and Aled Jones (I kid you not). The University Chaplain taking the service just said in a completely matter of fact way " unfortunately Aled Jones can't attend this re-arranged service, so Neil will sing a solo", which he did ( "How great thou art").

My daughter's there tonight Malcolm Any celebrities she should be looking out for Sounded like an interesting night. Princess Pretzel reported that she got chatting to a lass sat next to her on the front row who's dad also posts on The Oatcake As well as getting to meet the 'actual' real Nello, it seems her friend also made a uninvited appearance in the performance

I think the front row is the best place for this show. For some reason, at sohoplace, it's much cheaper than the 2nd and further back rows

Neil tells me that the blessing won't be in front of the audience but is at 5.30 this afternoon with the theatre staff, the cast, and of course himself. I hope the theatre are suitably impressed, but not surprised, that Neil can deliver a former Archbishop of Canterbury to do this !

We went yesterday (Saturday) afternoon and loved it. There was a good audience who enjoyed the show almost as much as the cast! This is a great show and I thoroughly recommend it.
I was the only one there with a Stoke shirt which goes to show that Marvellous appeals to a very wide audience.
Neil was there for the 61st time and when he posed for photographs and signed programmes at the end he already knew, at just after 5, that we had lost again, and that it was our tenth league defeat, which was more than I knew.
It's a lovely theatre too!

Went to Sohoplace last night great show laughed and cried same as the film, it’s longer than the film and goes into Neil’s school days great venue also How did the audience take to it ? We have wondered how a London audience would react, and were delighted at the reception it had at the first night on Saturday - which was as good as any I personally saw at the New Vic. How full was it ? My daughter went to the first night and got interviewed by a reporter from the NY Times

Just got home after stopping for a pint with the man himself, who is enjoying the show. I can’t recommend highly enough if you’re in London. Proud Stokie tonight.

saw it last night with the family. seats A1-A4 which is a first for me in the theatre and meant my Stoke top was visible to all. Kids (11 and 12) loved it as much as I did. Neil signed our programme afterwards and we chatted to the actors in the bar. best 2-hours worth of stoke-related spectating I can remember for a while. thanks and well done to all involved!

So glad you enjoyed it, kp. They think it’s all over, it is now. Sadly - or maybe not. They are trying to interest other provincial theatres, so who knows where we might end up ! And I did sit behind Andrew Lloyd Webber at the press night. Marvellous the musical………… or Marvellous on ice. ???? I have long since given up saying ‘ that could never happen’ where Neil is concerned!!

Spoke to someone this morning who went over the weekend totally uninterested in football but thought it was absolutely brilliant . come on Sir Andrew Lloyd You know it makes sense We did wonder how it would translate to a London audience or to those not interested in football (or the circus or Keele) but it has done so fine. I’ve read about a dozen reviews and they were all good bar one, where the reviewer walked out at the interval. But that was her loss ! As you know the 2nd half is emotionally powerful as well as being joyous. I still needed my hanky every time - despite seeing it many times.
