In the summer of 1992 I think it was, I was driving through Chester and past the abandoned Sealand Road ground. I noticed an opening and that was it. Parked up and squeezed in. Very strange feeling with the overgrown pitch and terraces. The main stand was an oddity and looked totally out of place. A breeze block monstrosity with a chicken wire fence in front of it. No bottom tier or terraces just an elevated tier of seating. And the roof was still on it which Vale purchased for the Hamill End! Had a look around inside and it was just plain and dull. No sense of it being the centrepiece of an old professional football club at all. It was quite eerie though, if you're in a place like that the silence can be very unsettling. Back outside and on to what was the home end and leaning on a crush barrier trying to imagine a match day. Another memory was the floodlights there. They were black and very imposing. Leaning over the four corners as if they were watching down on the place for intruders like me! Just looked up that Stoke only ever played there once in the FA Cup in 1947. Vale did actually buy the roof from one of their old stands!

That Aylesbury is a pretty area. (At least on Google Earth!) Imagine my disgust when I saw Vale Park on it. (Nah it's actually a pretty green space behind a technical school) The pubs and liquor stores are clearly marked - that town has it's priorities straight! I walk through different areas of SOT and other cities/villages on occasion so make sure you're not picking your nose or scratching your arse if outside and a funny looking car drives by! Poignant note: Couple years ago (It's been updated since) I "walked" by my dad's house in Missouri and they actually caught him outside walking in the garden. (He was outside a lot). He had passed away approx. 6 months prior so those pics are from whenever they had last updated. Screwing around on Google Earth and I get one last look at my dad! It was just a faint view from over his shoulder but no doubt it was him. From that point, I was hooked. Sounds like there's enough abandoned facilities and such for one of you to start up an "Abandoned" show on Netflix! I once went on Google Earth for a "walk" through LA to see if if was anything like Grand Theft Auto San Andreas. It was a bit, except in GTA there aren't metal grilles over all the windows and doors. An old friend who's from LA once told me that if you built up all the area between London and Bristol so they joined up into one big city, that's how big LA is! So I thought ok, lets see how long it takes to "walk" out of this place... i couldn't believe how long it was taking, then eventually i saw snow capped mountains in the distance and thought yes! I'm nearly there! ... then when I got to mountains i found they were actually inside the city, the buildings going partly up the sides then thinning out, then trees, then snow. So i gave up and went back to satellite view lol Other places I've been for "walks" over there are Columbus GA, Bridgetown NJ, Buffalo NY, Brooklyn NY, and Pueblo CO, cos I got friends online in them places. Found an area in Columbus with loads of weird architecture, like buildings that looked like ancient Greek or Roman temples or fantasy castles, one of them had the freemasons symbol on it, made me curious about the history of the place. Sorry to hear of your loss, rest in peace to your dad x

I was in Chester working ,probably mid sixties, and went to a match at Sealand Road one night and they were playing a Welsh team, possibly from Bangor. I remember being very impressed by a speedy winger playing for Bangor (?) who was making the fullback look a complete idiot. The ground looked a bit tatty even then!

It was Great Chell cricket club. I spent my childhood weekends there as my dad played at the club. It was a fantastic old club in the area, that stand was there for the cricket years before the football took over. The club got taken over, the land purchased by a businessman who set up a crap football team instead and laid waste to it. Shame

Staying out in Aylesbury tonight for work. As i parked up i noticed a rather sad rusty floodlight poking through overgrown trees and bushes and decided to have a wander over the road to see what it was and found a dilapidated overgrown football stadium. Apparently it was Aylesbury Uniteds ground and they got kicked out in 2006 and now play in chesham, some 15 miles away. Seems quite sad that its in this state when the towns football team has been exiled so far away. The only other time I've seen a rundown ground was in wellingborough when the team folded but it has since been reopening with a phoenix club. Has anyone else seen anything similar on their travels. Hope you made it out of Aylesbury OK

I worked in Bristol in the late 1980's and driving down the M32 it was sad to see the progressive crumbling of Bristol Rovers former home Eastville Stadium. It has gone completely now.
Closer to home I was a regular visitor to The Place in the late 1970's and on the nearby car park you could still see some of the railway sleepers that formed the banking of the terraces of Vale's Hanley home before they moved to the Wembley of the North.

No idea tbh. I went there once. Complete wrong end of the city for me. If you come out the Hazlehurst pub then cross the main road it was up that side street I think. K Chell fc and they used be in North West Counties. Well that brings back some memories. I was in Hazlehurst celebrating the night that England won the World Cup. Underage and with my Port Vale supporting cousins. πβοΈ

Popular racing spot for street car enthusiasts at one time and probably still is when the cops aren't around. Once you get to the top of it, that area has shown up in several movies/shows because it overlooks LA and is a classic "lovers-lane" type of scene. Freemasons have a deep history in the US with multiple presidents who were members. They did a LOT of building in Eastern cities and there's any number of conspiracy shows about them supposedly taking over the world etc. Why the hell would anyone want to take over THAT?

No worries mate, my dad's passed on too, so I do empathise, and i imagine they're having a good laugh about us posting on here now lol. And ditto your post, hence my waffling. Yeah I've seen any number of films with that view of LA, plus there's a film called Mulholland Drive, so thats interesting to know, and connects some dots for me. I knew freemasons had history in the US, but never knew it went that deep, but it doesn't surprise me. Was talking to a lad from South Carolina who says he's descended from Brits who were given a Crown grant to go and settle there, was like a government funded colonisation. He said to this day loads of the big landowners in southern states are the descendents of those crown grant settlers, and a lot of them are in the highest seats of government, so wouldn't surprise me if freemasons were involved in all that too. But yeah, why the heck would anyone want to take over the world? Some people are weird. Me I just want tbe quiet life lol

That Boothferry park looks like a good place to stage the Zombie World Cup. That'll probably be Wenger's NEXT suggestion... Every year with 1000 teams... Drove past it before it got demolished. Strange ground as it has 6 huge floodlights and iceland was built into one of the stands. The floodlights remained for a while after the ground was flattened. All gone now though. Also the nearby Boulevard rugby league ground was demolished around that time and both teams moved into the KC stadium.

I remember seeing the Scarboro' ground with grass growing on the terraces. The McCain which the fans nicknamed The theatre of Chips. Used to be across the road from one of my jobs in Scarborough. They've moved a few hundred yards down the road now to the crassly named flamingoland stadium.
