If Etebo is off the wage bill and Clark is coming in on considerably less, say 20 grand a week less that adds up to wedge over the season.

I think we can forget 20K salary levels now. We're a mid table championship club without parachute payments. Same as most clubs in the division.

Why would you put Fosu on the left? He can play either side whereas Wilmott is all right. At wing back? Not sure a right footed left wing back is a great idea tbh

He wasn’t playing fine at all, stop making things up. He’s a goalie who can’t save shots and a liability, that was the case last season, the season before that, and now. How on earth does playing him more often, and therefore exposing the lad even more make him more attractive to other clubs? He’s a league 2 standard goalie. He was. He would have got a move and we could have got a proper keeper in. Instead we broke his confidence and we have the situation we have now. Look at Taxhyon’s stats, exactly the analysis clubs use, which show how poor Bursik is relative to other keepers in this division. At no point in his career has he been even an average Championship keeper. His best games have been for League 1 sides which tells a story

The current system needs one of the three to sit deeper than the other two. It is the flatness of the back 3 that makes us so susceptible to balls over the top. That's a recipe for disaster - if one sits deeper it gives loads of space behind the other 2 for strikers to exploit knowing they can stay onside. It's not even a big issue - we aren't regularly being caught out by balls over the top - we are getting caught out on corners and by individual errors at the back. The thing we really need is an experienced commanding goalkeeper and a natural left sided CB like Clarke. Have you watched us? A simple good over the top causes panic every time. On Saturday it was embarrassing how many times we were caught out. It has been the case every since Souttar got injured.

Wilmott to RWB Fosu to LWB Why would you put Fosu on the left? He’s played the vast majority of his games on the left wing

Why would you put Fosu on the left? He’s played the vast majority of his games on the left wing I know, but not as a wing back, if we're shoe horning I think they at least need to be left footed but that's just me and maybe it makes little difference.

If this happens,it will be a big step in the right direction. But where will Wilmot play in the three. Will it be Taylor right, Wilmot centre and Clarke left of the three! Or someone else in the middle? Taylor in the middle with Wilmot right of the 3

I'm not saying Taylor can't play there but is he being thrown to the wolves a little playing there yet?

Don't see how we were ever seriously in for him on a permanent deal if that's the fee.
Where the fuck do we turn to now?

No way we could afford a fee like that.

Well, that was short-lived.
What's the alternative? Kongolo on loan? Or have we really got a bit of money for a permanent down the back of the sofa?

He's a good player from what I can gather, but if we fuck MON off (please, please, please) and appoint someone sensible, a LCB might not be such a priority. I'd love to see us build a defensive partnership out of Souttar and Taylor- one left footed, one right, both big lads. Don't play too high a line, and their lack of pace won't be an issue.

Few people last night seemed to think this transfer proved that the manager has had backing.
We couldn't even match £2.25million after he has brought in more funds than he has spent.
I know the owners would back him if it wasn't for FFP so not having a pop at them. What a frustrating job.
Really wanted this player as well so this is a bit of a blow.

Hardly anyone in the division could in this environment though. They can because they've sold £22m worth of players.

Looks like its Kongolo or a random one that hasn't been linked. Naby Sarr looks like he's going to Reading and the only other left sided free agent i can find is Yoann Barbet but he's probably going to Bordeaux.

Even Steve Bruce is pleading poverty, which says it all with their parachute cash www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/west-brom-transfer-window-bruce-24822732"Yes, of course. In my opinion we still need another two or three," he said. "I've told supporters there won't be millions to spend, we know the market we're in, we'll do our best. There's not a lot swashing around, when you speak to other managers in the Championship, a lot of them are struggling after Covid and all the rest of it, it's hard work. "We're in a difficult market, but there's nothing to be frightened of."
