Looks like Kilkenny, Laurent, Thompson as options at 6. All of them as options at 8 (Baker, Kilkenny, Thompson, Laurent, Smallbone, Powell) Smallbone and Powell as options at 10. I've got to pull you up on this point. A number 6 is a centre halves numbers, ideally left side ch of the back 4, a Gary Pallister or for those more eloquent an Ian Cranson. The number 6 as you say should be a number 4 Yeah I also want to know when the number 6 all of a sudden became a midfielder. As you say, the number 6 was the left centre back (Bloor) and the number 5 was the right centre back (Smith). The two central midfielders were the number 4 (Mahoney) and the number 10 (Hudson). And the number 8 (Greenhoff) played off the number 9 (Ritchie) up front.

To be fair,Bayern, it seems like he's been fit for ages, played three 90 minutes for Ireland u21s over the summer, and has played a lot for them in pre-season Hassenhutl seems to think he can play anywhere in midfield www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/20070932.very-good-footballer-smallbone-shows-keep-hasenhuttls-faith/On nailing down his best role, Hasenhuttl added that it is not so simple: “Eight, ten, six, I think these are all positions he can play normally, and where he will get the chance to play in the future. No point telling Bayern this. A bit of positivity flies in the face of his negative agendas… How does me saying “ He seems a good player though so let’s see what happens.” fit into those alleged agendas? Lazy bullshit as per

If this happens, and even not counting Clucas, that's a lot of options in midfield who will expect to play a lot. Interesting to find out what the plan is. Baker Laurent Kilkenny Smallbone Thompson ...and Powell Maybe with the narrowing of the pitch and the possibility of Tymon going we aren't going to play any full backs, wing backs, wingers or wide forwards 🤣

He has been outstanding recently for the Irish Under 21 team.Plays like Stephen Ireland did when he was up for it. Ooh I liked Stephen Ireland, he should have played more games for us than he did. If he's anything like him I'm in.

That’s how every team set up, and how we played at school. And to avoid ant confusion. The five was the FOREWORD LINE! 🤪

Hughes seemed to lose interest in him I think he just couldn't get him on the pitch to be fair, B. He really was a great player. Was in interesting article re him in the Irish Independent, he had some condition where he took longer to recover due to some rare muscle issue in his knee or similar which cause like a form of arthritis or similar which was a shame because when he was on form he was as good as we've had that I can remember. That Chelsea game was was sensational. Basically the older he got, the longer it took to get over the slightest of knocks and had to have intensive heat treatment to play 90 mins.

I always looked upon it as more like 343 where the half backs and the inside forwards were the middle four.

Smallbone is already a really good player, who has the potential to be a great one. I would expect him to be a mainstay in a (very good) Irish national side in, maybe, two years. The comparison with Stephen Ireland, style-wise, is pretty close to the mark. If he comes to us, many of the concerns over creativity, or lack thereof, will disappear.
If this happens, hats off to whoever arranged it. Hopefully, the new season is about to become something to look forward to.
