We don’t play a 10 though, we play two 8s either side of the central player so they can shuffle across to support the wide men defending So what's the plan when Powell's fit? That's not going to get the best from him at all. If the plan is to go with two 8s then it sounds like he'll bring some creativity, though it doesn't sound like a system that will necessarily be bursting with it. Powell will play when fit. For 2 games. And then miss the next 10.

It makes more sense to me to have one that he can fit seamlessly into once he's back rather than one that squeezes him out entirely, but we'll see I guess.

I think he should benefit from having a finisher to supply and hopefully better quality around him in Laurent, Kilkenny, Smallbone etc. Maybe if he doesn’t have to do quite so much carrying others he won’t get injured as much and be more effective overall. Hopefully anyway.

Sounds like he's more of a creative type in terms of his skillset. More of an 8 than a 10, assume he'd be the one to get forward in a 3-5-2 just ahead of Baker and one of Laurent/Kilkenny? Yep good description of him. Just what we need. Great signing if happens

He has been outstanding recently for the Irish Under 21 team.Plays like Stephen Ireland did when he was up for it.

ACL injury in January 2021 is the only negative really. Then again without that I’d doubt we’d have had a chance of signing him. Sounds a really promising signing.

Obvious the similarities with looks but not completely dissimilar player. Seems we've landed two very good players who had a lot of interest in them and credit where due. If we can land that extra forward player, suddenly is looking quite decent. 👍

No idea about this lad and seems he'll add something a little different.
Hard to see a move from 3-5-2 at this stage, so that'll be 6 centre backs, 6 midfielders, 5 forwards and next to no wing backs ... again.

He’s been mentioned before sounds like a decent player who’s more of an AM. So what we need. Seen him play a few times and he looks good to be honest.

Seems to have played well for them in pre-season Wtf is a loose 8? A midfielder who isn't predominantly a sitter, plays in the half spaces and has license to roam where he wants when the team has the ball. Almost an 8 and a half as the cool coaches call it these days - not quite a 10, but more attacking than a standard 6 or 8.

Looks like Kilkenny, Laurent, Thompson as options at 6. All of them as options at 8 (Baker, Kilkenny, Thompson, Laurent, Smallbone, Powell) Smallbone and Powell as options at 10. I've got to pull you up on this point. A number 6 is a centre halves numbers, ideally left side ch of the back 4, a Gary Pallister or for those more eloquent an Ian Cranson. The number 6 as you say should be a number 4

It makes more sense to me to have one that he can fit seamlessly into once he's back rather than one that squeezes him out entirely, but we'll see I guess. How does not getting one that squeezes him out entirely make any sense as a transfer policy? Surely the whole point is to get players who are better than what we have got in every position on the pitch? If we can get a player who is better than Powell in that position we should get him in. The idea of deliberately getting a player worse than Powell so that Powell is guaranteed to get his place back when fit is absurd. Unless of course you are his mother.

Assume he will play as one of the 8s. When he plays as a 10 he gets detached from midfield When he plays deeper in midfield he gets dragged into the muck and bullets and is neutralised. When he plays closer to the striker he's a key part of the pressing and a goal threat in addition to being better placed to create.

I've got no problem with getting a player better than him in his position. I'd question the wisdom of changing the system to one that eliminates that position altogether and thus can't utilise him in his best role, especially given the ongoing creativity deficit in the side.
