The population of Eugene, Oregon is only around 170,000, which I don't think is much more than the town I'm from. Why is it held there? It's Nike town, literally I think.

Yes...He ran a fantastic race and that's a great achievement. Loved his expression of genuine disbelief as he hit the finishing line. Also great to see how all the other athletes were so enthusiastic about his winning. Proves that sometimes the nice guys do win! Have loved watching these Athletics Championships tbh.

Enjoying the re runs in the afternoon (no pun intended) trying to avoid the results before i watch.
Back in 2013 we were at the Anniversary games London and in our hotel a lot of team GB staying in the same hotel at breakfast on the next table a spotty/shy 19 year old sat with his young running mate (o'Hare) and mentioned about his dad being the stadium announcer and that spotty teenage ran that day with his mate and Charlie Grice and as you may have guessed it was Jake Wightman.
The crowds still not great at the World championships but the track is great for fast times.

Highlights for me so far have been Feng winning the womenās discus, womenās 10,000m (which was a race for the ages,) menās 1500m and the menās shot final (Crouser and Kovacs battering each other.)
Looking forward to the womenās 800 to see if Mu has to break sweat to win and womenās 5000m final and hoping Gidey has recovered from the 10k final.

Feng was a big lass but expect the usual questions of how she has bettered her old pb in such a short space of time As for the BBC coverage I think it could have been better I work on the assumption that everyone is bang at it in terms of gear and have no problem with that. Do you mean the pictures or the commentary/analysis.l? If itās commentary/analysis, Iād have a combination of Cotter/Cram and get Tim Hutchings (if he could be persuaded to leave the US commentary gig) or Rob Walker for the long/middle distance. Cotter and Johnson for the sprints. St Paula wouldnāt be anywhere near it any commentary position. Michael Johnson is always excellent, Jackson is solid but so bland and Denise Lewis has so many splinters in her arse from non-commitment it must be painful. Jeanette Kwakye is better in the anchor role than doing post-race interviews at track side. Ohurugu is decent, Chris Thompson was great for the marathon coverage too, Ennis-Hill is OK but never seems to offer much beyond superficial bits and pieces which can be frustrating given what she has achieved. Backley on the field events is fine and if you pair him up with a good foil heās not quite as dry. However, having watched NBC coverage of athletics for a few years, well, now that is painful at times.

Iād guess Gabby Logan will be involved and Hazel Irvine. Does Clare Balding still have a BBC contract or could do it freelance? I hope they bring Johnson over as heās the only person who will say āWhy are you celebrating that fourth place like it was a win? X ran half a second outside their PB. Thatās poor.ā

There have been some great races in this championship. It's almost unbelievable that Shericka Jackson ran the second fastest women's 200m and Florence Joyner Griffith's world record from 1988 still exists. I bought a ticket for the Commonwealth Games 200m day off the back of that.
It made me wonder what the shortest-lived world record could be, and I remember Jonathan Edwards breaking his own triple jump record, then 20 minutes later breaking it again.
It was great to see Matt Hudson-Smith win a bronze, and I'm looking forward to Athing Mu vs Keely Hodgkinson in the 800m.

I haven't seen much myself, but as I understand it Khaddi Sagnia reached the final directly with her first jump.
In the final on Monday 02.50.
And Duplantis on Monday 02.25.
So on Monday during the night between 02.25-04.25 I will be watching.
Ice cream yet to be decided.

I used to enjoy this but this one has really snuck under my radar. Do we have medal contenders? Not on the mens side anymore I don't think, we may have a couple of femmes in the frame. British athletics seems to be in a real mess. Guess we might pick something up in the relays at the end. It's a shame when we can't even get a male athlete in the 100m final. Prescod And Hughes didn't really get close to the final. 98 years since an English born athlete won the 100m Olympic gold. Useless trivia for you

Really good question about the shortest lived world records too. In my head Iām sure there have been some examples in the hammer or discus. Convinced I read an article on ESPN about it years ago.

It took a Welsh man Didn't an Irish chap win it also? Yes he did. Stephen Roche won it in 1987. Won the Tour of Italy and the World championship in the same year which is quite the feat. Merckx is the only other person to have done it and heās the default answer to most cycling trivia questions š

The question is:
Go to bed at 11 p.m, after Midsomer Murders, set the alarm clock to 02.20 am. and wake up to the finals in Pole Vault (A Duplantis) and Long jumps (K Sagnia). Sweden's biggest medal chances now. Then go to bed again at 04.30 am.
Or
Stay up from now 9.40 pm to 04.30 am?

Bit of a weird one as anything less than bronze would have been a disappointment but didnāt really have a shot at the top two (all things being equal.)

What a belting world record for Sydney McLaughlin in the 400m hurdles. The 100m hurdles was comical with the amount of runners crashing into hurdles though! Culminating with the athlete who got the chance to run against the clock after she was impeded by another hurdler...she was doing great until she hit the last hurdle and fell over before the finish line. I hope Dina Asher-Smith is okay for the Commonwealth Games next month. I loved how happy every one of the 200m runners were with their medals, Dina included. I'd get some shut-eye if I were you musik. I've been avoiding results and catching up later in the day.

Iāve got a Ā£100 bet with a mate that McLaughlin, Crouser, Dos Santos, Rojas, Duplantis and Mu all win gold. He had Kovacs over Crouser so itās just a straight win or break even now for me. Very safe bets with a mate but I didnāt have the nuts to do it with a bookie.

Makes me think the Uk is the last place athletics is alive and well.

Why are there almost zero fans in the stadium? Makes me think the Uk is the last place athletics is alive and well. The evening sessions have sold out every day. Whether everyone actually turns up thoughā¦ The morning sessions are always pretty sparsely attended though. No medals to be decided and events which donāt scream āMarquee.ā Agree that the UK does get very good attendances for top-level meets. From a selfish point of view Iām glad that the Diamond League has moved from London to Birmingham as the venue.
