Find somebody who is actually competent, experienced and capable enough of managing a Championship level club rather than some no hoper who managed a couple of pub-level teams and a 3rd rate national team Will be very interesting to see what happens if we have a poor start to the season and Vale hit the ground running - will hopefully (and finally) start to focus the minds of the owners but am sure it probably won't Whether Port Vale are top of their division, or bottom on zero points, will have no impact whatsoever on our season or the thought process of those in charge. Why would it? You’re suggesting that O’Neill’s position is more at risk the better Port Vale do in League 1. Strange thought process.

Surely long-term investment is key, although it's quite tough considering our FFP restrictions.
How much are we actually allowed to spend?

They could have said our situation is tight but we’ll try to find some wiggle room. It’s not telling every other club you’ve got money to chuck away but they’d rather keep us depressed and unexpectant. They tried upping the level of expectation but couldn’t live up to it. Back to the default.

But very few others will be spending either The whole division is absolutely skint and £1m fees are as rare as hen's teeth. It may only happen this summer if someone sells someone for really big money. And our wage bill will be top 10 - so it's a case of our free transfers and loans against everyone else's, at least in terms of being amongst the top non-parachute teams. Then it's down to man-management, tactics etc. As the 3rd or 4th longest-serving manager, I don't think there's any cover for him if we aren't right in the play-off hunt until the end.

I don’t think there’s any cover for him if we don’t see a drastic upturn in home performances either. So many are sick to the back teeth with it and just going through a routine of addiction attending home games.

Having a clear idea of how we want to play and signing players who suit that way of playing would be a start. Getting a balanced side/squad would be a start.

We'll do much better if we don't lose two or three of our best players to injury and don't have the shedload of other injuries we had. There are many examples of teams losing only one of their best players and doing much worse without them e.g. Liverpool without Van Dijk and Leicester without Vardy. If you think dinosaur O’Neill will get us higher than 14th you’re deluded!!!! He will get us in the play offs at least next season!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good to see exclamation marks are back.

We need goals in the side for a start.
Brown stepped up to the plate, Surridge flopped, Campbell and Powell weren’t fit for a large chunk of the season.
Whilst Tymon put in plenty of crosses that should have led to goals, the actual goals/assists contribution from the wing backs was very poor. Whether we’re playing with wingers or wing-backs we need a lot more in terms of productivity.
We never looked particularly threatening from set pieces, you need CB’s that can chip in goals like Cort and Shawcross back in the day.
Until the arrival of Baker the midfield wasn’t doing enough to chip in with some goals.
MON needs to get recruitment right to find the goals that are lacking in the side, he also needs to adopt a more attacking philosophy because the quality of the football was dull.

MON is a solid reliable and safe manager who seems to set out not to lose. Exactly what we don't need if we want promotion or exciting attacking football. If he stays then 14th is around our level. “MON is a solid reliable and safe manager who seems to set out no to lose”…………I’ll have a bit of that if it means promotion, an FA Cup Final and a few trips across Europe. Oooooooo😁

Just because they are in the same city, it doesn’t make them a rival. They haven’t been a rival to Stoke for over a decade.

Two decades + Thanks, I couldn’t remember the last time that they were in the same league as us and didn’t want to look it up. Vale don’t rival us for fan support, for player transfers, for national team awareness or even for local team awareness. I just don’t get why people think that they are important in any way, shape or form.

I just don’t get why people think that they are important in any way, shape or form. The only thing I think is relevant is that they are being well run and seem to have a plan that suits them. The same can’t be said here. We’re a mess.

Really poor job🤔clueless as usual How do you think we can improve Steve? What would your team for next season look like? Getting Souttar and Campbell back to full fitness for starters will be massive. We need a physical centre forward in the Keenan Davis mould (who was coming until he got injured),a new right wing back and I’m certain with no injuries we’d be at least challenging the top 6

We needed that kind of striker this season, he didn’t sign one.

If clubs like Luton can do it on limited resources then there’s really no excuse for us.
