Happy with that as long as there is definitely no Chester. Think Jagielka has done very well and could form a good partnership with younger legs around him.

I was sceptical when we signed him but think he has been excellent. Definitely looks like he has another year in him. Good news.

Jagielka & Souttar could be an interesting and formidable centre back pairing

Excellent news.
That means that Souttar does not need to be rushed in to be “the savior of our season”, which will give him proper time to recover from a nasty injury, especially for a man of his size.

Great news.
according to the Sentnul only three other players have played for Stoke in their 40s and one, Sir Stan, in their 50s. Mind you we have some in their 20s that play like they’re in their 40s.
if Souttar returns healthy a back three of Jagielka, Souttar and Forrester is as good as it gets in this league - daft mistakes notwithstanding (many of those were at the hands of Chester and Harwood-Bellid, neither which are even decent subs, so we need to strengthen in that area.).

This is good news but also offer a coaching role to keep him around!

Shame he will have to clear out his locker on New Year's Eve, but I guess he can worry about that later.

Shame he will have to clear out his locker on New Year's Eve, but I guess he can worry about that later. I wonder if the six months was his decision and he preferred to take his chances as a free agent in January. The most logical next step is the MLS to top his retirement funds but I think he enjoys playing for team that’s close to the northwest.

Seems a sensible option for both player & club. If all's working out & it suits both parties then I'm sure he'll stay on until May 2023. But if for any reason he's struggling to get game time he may decide on a move to make sure he's playing in his career closing years. Or if we have someone else lined up and need to ease a wage up its Stoke's call aswell.
After many years of long contracts being dished out like confetti a more measured approach does seem the best way to go for the time being.
