Someone I know flew out to Spain early this morning, she said queues were about 2 hours to get through security. Is Manchester the only council owned Airport in the country ? It isn't wholly owned by the council, although Manchester City Council and nine other Greater Manchester councils are approx 50% shareholders in the holding company MAG (who also own and run Stanstead and East Midlands).

We are flying out next Wednesday. Sounds like fun. I just got there very early for a flight to NY recently. Maybe 3 hours. I hate airports and hanging around in them but was worth it that time. Get checked in etc , get all done then enjoy your pint. 👍

Out at 8am returned at 10pm on a Sunday, day after Wigan match
No issues, no luggage though
One of the lucky ones it seems

I fly out from Manchester next friday (Good Friday). Our first time taking our 2 year old away. There’s no chance it’s going to go well is there? Just keep calm and go at your own pace. Benefit of going with a 2 year old is that they generally let you on 1st. That said I normally wait till the end of the queue to get on the plane itself, let everyone else fuck about and then get on after. I'm flying to Verona next Monday, give us a wave if I'm still there on Friday lol

I'm flying to Verona next Monday, give us a wave if I'm still there on Friday lol This is true actually, there are so many panicked people before they get there that they’re hyper ventilating until they’ve checked in. I’m same as you, get there early (despite being absolutely horrified by the airport experience) get through that security and relax. Easier said than done though sometimes with staffing issues. And it’s not just us, it’s way worse in Europe I’ve found and I fly a lot in Europe.

It’s wank, always hated Manchester airport, much prefer East Midlands or Birmingham. Or Liverpool for that matter I was with you up to East Midlands. Birmingham is a good airport it's just... Birmingham, and as such you can never quite trust you'll get there on time.

Flown from Manchester, Liverpool, Bristol, Birmingham, Leeds and East Midlands and Manchester is comfortably the worst, although I've had some dream check ins there on occasions, its always the flight back that seems to have issues with Passport control. Liverpool and Bristol probably the best.

They're recruiting and then new starters will need training. You'd hope they'll be on top of it for peak season

Hopefully all ironed out by July, school holidays haven't helped We have an early flight so we'll get there extra early Same here mate…we fly at 7.25am…but we’ve also booked a lounge and I want to get our monies worth out of it 🍺 Plan to get to the airport about 4am at the moment. Think I may cancel the lounge…no fees for cancelling…and re book it nearer July if it’s all sorted. That fat kid from the On The Beach ad will have had all the food anyway mate

They're recruiting and then new starters will need training. You'd hope they'll be on top of it for peak season I read an article a couple of days ago which said they're really struggling to get new starters and at that time had only managed to recruit 400 new starters. The report also said that after the first couple of days training about 150 of them hadn't bothered to turn up again, so the nett new starter figure was around 250. They estimated that, at that rate of "success", it would take till the end of the year to meet their needs, as recruitment rates tended to reduce after the initial "burst". I remember, during lockdown, seeing a spokesperson from Manchester airport on BBC NW news on several occasions saying that they were "all prepared, ready and waiting" for air travel to resume, and were pushing for the government to open up foreign travel asap.

I was planning a visit to my lad next week but three things have put us off the cost of flights has risen massively, the cost of our connection to Frankfurt has doubled and together with the chaos at Manchester Airport we've decided to give it a miss. What was a £60 1hr 30mins flight is now a one stop 8hr flight or £250 direct 🤔

What was a £60 1hr 30mins flight is now a one stop 8hr flight or £250 direct 🤔 Adding to the fact you’re knackered when you arrive at your destination and the stress that goes with it then there’s the stress preparing your flight out. My daughters in Seville atm I’ve text her telling her to check her flight and give herself plenty of time to get to the airport. Kids always seem to think if you’re a certain amount of time away from somewhere that’s the exact time you should give yourself, the amount of times I’ve dropped her off at Stoke station and she’s missed her train to London is farcical, she then expects to sit in my car until the next train arrives.

A few years ago we flew from Manchester to Heathrow, Heathrow to Singapore, Singapore to Melbourne then Melbourne to Brisbane.
What a jaunt that was which was made worse due to the fact that our suitcases were still in the U.K. when arriving at Brisbane.
BA were brilliant must admit as they paid for new clothing for us all until our cases turned up.

It sounds shite, but is it yet another knock on of how these places/jobs have been treated for too long? Much like when they couldn't get people to drive lorries a few months ago because they were just treated as unimportant. People get wise to what's actually going on and soon think "fuck this". Surely they can't blame Covid that much, given that the rules have changed? Unless it's different for airports/aviation with the potential spreading?
Like someone said above, £12.00/HR as a security officer in what I imagine is a very high pressured environment, isn't worth of getting out of bed for. May as well work at a supermarket for a bit less money and much less stress. You can guarantee the people at the top are still taking home their millions, whilst the bottom of the wrung-ers are working 12 hour shifts on minimum wage, getting all kinds of shit from dickhead passengers, like us.

Covid is just a poor excuse now, I no longer buy it. It's just an easy way to cover gross mismanagement. I flew from MAN twice last year during the summer and it wasn't bad at all, what I would call a relatively normal experience. What is happening now is just unacceptable

However they now are all working at Aldi or somewhere similar for the same money but better hours.
