Fucking Hell can't believe Stephen Ireland hasn't been mentioned. The finest attacking midfielder to ever grace our club (well equal to Hudson anyway). Shame he had limited game time. He wasn’t even the finest attacking midfielder in that squad 🤣😉 Good player but he was with us about 5 years and made 70 appearances, not sure that’s bit-part. Isn't that the definition of "bit part", though? He was here for 5 years and only made 70 appearances? As good as Crossley was, I wouldn't say he was a "bit-part" because he was an ever present whilst he was here and made a massive impact. I've always had "bit part" down as useful players who don't always play as much as they might.

I always thought Victor Moses had a good loan spell! And might be harsh to class him as 'bit part' but Lee Grant was superb when he came in for Butland when he was out injured.

I remember Tony Scully's debut and being more excited than Vanessa Feltz in Thorntons. Didn't quite work out as I hoped. I just loved a winger who took people on. I was about 12 to be fair

Actually throwing her anywhere may prove difficult

Sam Bangoura...great run of goals but apparently a "shit guy" Did they ever find him, LP? It was the case of the vanishing 40 goal a season striker. Even Bossie was puzzled at that one. OS.

Felt sorry for him because we had such great strikers at the time. Scored a lot of goals in the lower leagues. His lad a great player. Harvey not John.

Jim McGroarty. 9 appearances - 2 goals. I think my second ever game he scored v Mansfield. Soft shot went through the keeper's legs.

I wouldn't class most of the players mentioned as bit-part players. Hendrie for example did a job for a large portion of the season he was here. Odemwingie did great then got injured. Crossley came in on loan and did a great job. I even think Ireland was more than a bit-part player, at least until he got his injuries.
I thought of Danny Pugh first. Here for a while, and not good enough to be a regular starter but did a decent job when needed and in a number of different positions. Similarly Karl Henry who was never close to being a nailed-on starter but was good I thought.
Carl Beeston became a bit-part player after his injury, but should he be included given how important he was for a couple of seasons before? Hoekstra didn't play all that many games but lit many of those he played up, so I don't think I can call him a bit-part player. Similarly Clint Hill from a defensive standpoint. Even my second favourite player ever (Bojan) became a bit-part player.
After all that, I will go for Jon Parkin and Marc Muniesa.

Mark Devlin was the ultimate bit-part player for years. He did nothing useful whatsoever apart from one goal against Crewe which led to a disproportionately wild mental.

Hard to believe he was the hero of a massive European game.
