Couple of odd lists here. Scholes was never a #10. De Bruyne is more of a #10 than Scholes ever was, where's he? Joe Cole and Bruno Fernandes but no Cantona or Le Tissier? What about Zola? Modric, Ozil, Di Canio, Fabregas... I think I'd make an argument for Berbatov too. And Bojan of course

Did Joe Cole even play much at number 10 after he left West Ham?
Paul Scholes a million per cent wasn't one!
Agree that Zola should be there, Mata being in is weird.
Very odd.

Juninho was great, I'd have had him in there just for sheer joy to watch

Crap list, some aren’t number 10’s and some don’t deserve to be there. Bruno Fernandes? Give over🤣

what is a 'number 10' anyroad?
don't they simply mean inside forward?
or deep lying striker at a push

Maybe there's some weird context missing or something I think they pick an order from 10 players rather than random players. Probably had a public vote or something and loads of teenagers from Essex voted for Mr Fernandes

what is a 'number 10' anyroad? don't they simply mean inside forward? or deep lying striker at a push Well historically, in most of the world, it was always a skillful scheming string-puller in a free role between midfield and forwards, plotting attacks and playing killer passes. In England it was Dave Regis.

Kind of. I always thought he was more of a second striker than an out and out number 10.

Kind of. I always thought he was more of a second striker than an out and out number 10. I would consider Sheringham a number 10, he was neither a striker, a winger or an attacking mid. Just a floater which is what I consider a number 10 to. Someone who’s above actually been made to play an actual position😉

Mama Sidibe.
The only one to invent a completely new position on the field of play.

I wouldn't say Sheringham was a 10 I have to say I’m shocked you haven’t mentioned Ben Brereton Diaz yet😉 Plenty to report. Friction mounting between Blackburn and the Chilean federation, coming back from long-term injury but sensationally in the Chile squad anyway! Will he play in Brazil tomorrow?? Tension rising..... now where's that thread (not a #10 though obv)

At the risk of stating the very obvious I don't think it's literally about the number on the shirt they wore, as evidenced by the fact that most of the players in the original lists don't/didn't wear #10...

What position was Lampard? 8 same as Gerrard and Scholes. That’s why Sven pushed Scholes out to left wing

Neither in position nor shirt I think the main question is... Was Dennis Bergkamp the best number 10? Or was he the best number 8? ... I'm going give up at this point as I'm disappointed in myself that I've had to make three posts when all I wanted to do was inject a little bit of light-hearted sarcasm with a post about Teddy Sheringham. I'll let you all get back to your serious discussion.
