Stoke City’s owners, bet365 Group, have underlined their continuing long-term commitment to the Club and its funding by reducing the debts of the Club’s holding company by £160million.
The Club’s owners have converted £40million of shareholder loans into equity in Stoke City Holdings Limited and have also waived £120million of shareholder loans.
Joint Chairman John Coates said: “Converting £40m of loans into equity and waiving £120m of loans greatly strengthens the Club’s balance sheet and also provides more long-term stability for the Club.
“On the field, the last four or five years have not proved to be as successful as any of us would have hoped. However, our commitment to the Club, its future success, financial sustainability and place at the heart of our local community remains as strong and focussed as ever.”
The debt reduction follows the Club’s recent announcement that a £20m five-year redevelopment programme at the bet365 Stadium and Clayton Wood training ground is to get underway this summer.
More than £4million will be invested in facilities ahead of the 2022/23 season, including the installation of 8,400 seats.
Other work to be carried out this summer includes the complete transformation of Delilah’s Bar into a contemporary sports bar, installation of new toilet facilities in the Tile Mountain and South Stands, refurbishment of the Players’ and Stanley Matthews Lounges and installation of a new synthetic, all-weather pitch at Clayton Wood to be used by first-team, Academy line-ups and women’s side.

Forgive me, where are these 8400 seats? I presume its just replacement of old seats in one or some of the stands

Will be the John Smiths (or whatever its called now) stand - they are the last faded ones left after the others were replaced in recent years
There were official types walking around the Boothen on Saturday with ties on and clipboards, I hope they saw what an utter soul destroying place that concourse is, with smelly crappy toilets, inadequate bar facilities and TVs smaller than my phone that are 50% full of advertising - get some projectors and a good 100-150" picture on the end walls, and some 80" TVs up rather than the 32" ones it seems we have now!
Put some high tables in (no need for seats or stools) so people can stand around them for a chat and put their drink down
I still say build back from the Boothen, just by 10-12 feet, and make the bar a 360 one with the pumps you see at the cricket knocking 8 lagers out in seconds, rather than selling Carling/Carlsberg in a bottle (which is vile and gassy) or cans
A fanzone out the back of the Boothen/behind the Family Stand with music on/early match would attract people away from pubs and the town centre earlier - even the Fail have one! Would only need to be a big party gazebo selling beer and pop

I know the statement says the group continues its long term support etc... But has this move just made it a whole lot more attractive for a potential buyer?

Regardless of mistakes which we all hope to be behind us or at least learning rapidly from.
We are lucky to have them as owners

Fantastic support may be the “what’s all the fuss about brigade “ can give it a rest , now , of course they’ve made mistakes but there are very very few owners who would be able or willing to do this and id suggest none for Stoke city

No the value of something is not what you paid for or put into it (in this case loans and shares) its what someone else will pay for it so unless we were a premier league club its unlikely the value would come anywhere close to the £160m loans nevermind anything else. The only proviso I might add its slightly possible bet 365 could sell the club to the John or Peter to stop it dragging down its financials.

Well done to the family, bailing us out yet again. I’m very happy to have such a strong backing for the club.
Does this affect FFP? Or is that based on the running costs / P&L of the club?

Those that use the pubs still will, but there are a number of people especially out of town Stokies who just park up around the ground and go straight in who would use the Fanzone I reckon, I certainly would be one of them. EDIT And as someone rightly mentioned below a lot of the coaches coming in from various pubs all over the city arrive at 14:00 to park up.......

I use my local cricket club in Knypersley, and come on the supporters coaches (get to the ground at 2.05pm I have a choice of the Hotel and its £5+ a pint of Becks Vier with 1 person servicing a long queue while 5 others watch The Power League, the packed Harvester or go into the ground My youngest (12) always wants to go in, he likes to watch the team warm up while I have a beer downstairs, its grim A fun tent outside with activities for the kids and some atmosphere would be excellent - I remember the PlayStation tucks when we were in the Europa League and Prem - my eldest was 12/13 at the time and thought them ace - if you want to stay in Stoke and avoid feel free!

I know the statement says the group continues its long term support etc... But has this move just made it a whole lot more attractive for a potential buyer? ??? Does it not convince you of their commitment to the club. Why does there always have to be an ulterior motive? We are so fortunate to have them as owners. I can't think of another club whose owners are as bound to the club as the Coates family are to Stoke. Thank you to the Coates family.

Agree its unlikely unless they ever wanted to float but I still doubt Denise is that chuffed that £160m spent on Stoke returns £0 whereas £160m spent on bet 365 they'd expect 5%+ profit back, so I expect John and Peter dont get much at xmas and for birthdays

It was just an observation that people may have opinions on, sort of what message boards are for. I have a history of posts that support the ownership being in the hands of the Coates family, so certainly no ulterior motive here.
