Why is it, the Coates family and the Board, think that we, the supporters, who in my opinion, are the backbone, of any successful club, are satisfied with the utter dog-shite that seems to be served up week after week, game after game. Do they assume, as the title of the post suggests, we are easily pleased? If that’s the case, we really are in the shit. Admittedly, it was Peter Coates, who gave us 10 years, of some of the most exciting football ever seen, certainly during my many years as a Stokie and the crowd, the atmosphere made it just as exciting as the football. However, who is responsible for our demise? For me, it’s the same people who gave us those years of excitement. If anyone can explain to me why that is, then please enlighten me. The way forward, as I see it, is to drag this club by the scruff of the neck into 21st century. We seem to be stuck in a 70s time warp, where all club managers were British. I can’t remember a single foreign manager plying his trade in British football, during that time and there lies the problem. We, as a club, have not moved with the times. Why the club persists with going down the British manager route, is beyond my comprehension. There are good foreign/international managers out there, don’t ask me who, because I don’t have the knowledge, which seems to be the case for our Chairman and recruitment team. Finally, if something isn’t done soon, to appease the situation, then I believe we are in danger of languishing in the depths of footballing obscurity for many years to come. EASILY PLEASED!!!! LIKE FUCKING HELL I AM!!!!
This of course IMHO. Please feel free to vent your spleen if you disagree.

Because they can use the *being fans of the club* or *bet365 employ x number in Stoke-on-Trent* reasons.
There are still fans out there who think they're the best owners around. The last six years have been dreadful.

They confess to liking to give the managers more time than most.
Why that is I don't know because it never works for them

Very difficult one this as it's a double edged sword, on one hand Coates are good as we will never go under they will always fund the club and we will never lose it so big tick there. On the other side they are not particularly good at running the club, brilliant for things like freezing ticket prices and free coach travel but they can afford that you wouldn't get that if they were not multi millionaires, but actually running the club? Can you remember his first tenure? Bloody awful everyone wanted them gone and was positively a relief when the icelandics took over, (how they run us is another story) they got lucky with pulis who was pretty much universally unliked he did well got a decent team together but got very lucky with promotion to the premier as any number of years before and every year since you would not of been promoted with 79 points as the saying goes the planets aligned in our favour for once and everything dropped into place. Pulis then did very well when in the premier as we were nearly always the underdogs the pariahs that suited him/us down to the ground but eventually he couldn't take us any further the football was awful and he was sacked, then Coates had to pick another manager which lets face it they have never been very good at even looking back to his first tenure (got lucky with macari who wasn't in the running when appointed as they wanted mel Machin) appointed Hughes who brought flair and great football for a couple of years but as with every club Hughes has managed it doesn't last he had form for doing exactly what happened at stoke. So in summing up you can have stability and the club never going bust or Coates in charge appointing what seems like duff dinosaur managers. As people have said the club needs root and branch reforms so it is in the modern era but will we get it? Talk about a rock and a hard place sorry for the long rant. Up the potters.

Anybody who wants the Coates family out especially in the current climate are off their heads and are not really thinking it through Where in my post did I say I wanted the Coates family out? What I did say was, they need to move with the times. Start to employ the people with the knowledge and the know-how of how to move the club forward, because I believe we’re on a very slippery slope to oblivion, with the things the way they are at the moment.

Where did I say you did want him out? I just made a point on the thread as there’s many ( for some bizarre reason ) who do If people want a foreign investor who wants a play thing who when they lose interest they’ll pull the plug completely then they need to be careful what they wish for and gives their heads a wobble Then again we should be ok given the fit and proper PL/EFL ruling 🙄

The last six years have been dreadful. I agree with you mostly. But they are technically good solid owners for us to have. I just wish they would show a bit more ambition. They have completely messed up the last 6 years and got us into an untenable FFP situation that is resulting in them not being able to properly plan their way out of the current mess. It may be some time before we really get ourselves back on the straight and narrow. Scholes going is definitely a sign that things are starting to change. Think it is going to be glacial speed though

I really dont know where I sit with this one tbh......
I will hold my hand up and say that Ive wanted Coates to move to one side and sell the club to another who has fresh ideas, impetus, contacts in the game. Then the more wiser posters come along and appease me.
Theres many a poster on there who have followed the club for 60+ years, blimey my first game was '72, Players, managers and owners come and go. We dont......
Its not that simple as saying 'easily pleased', otherwise we would be just shrugging our shoulders at 4.45 and saying 'oh well til next week'. No, it runs a lot deeper than that.
For very small periods in our 150+ year history, we have had small pockets of success. Money, freaks of nature ( ref Butler Street roof here), rank bad ownership periodically, have all put the skids uner Stoke City in the past.
However, the traditions of the club and the rich history is something we should build upon . When speaking to players who are interested in signing, just ask them a few simple questions;
"whose our all time top goalscorer?"
"What was the name of our old ground?"
"Who was 'the wizard of the dribble"?
Imagine Jese answering them....thats my whole point really. The fabric of this club is something that will never leave us no matter what. The players should be buying in to this ethos as well.
I bet you a pound to a penny that not ONE single player could answer any of them questions - not one.
In simple terms theyre being interviwed for a job and should be asked questions about the history of this club, just like youre asked in an interview "SO what do you know about XXXXXX"
The players should represent us on the field and leave nothing in the dressing room. Then instead of "oh well until next week" it would be "fair play, we'll have em next week"
Am I easily pleased....? Hell no ! The players owe us BIG TIME starting tonight

Clueless is harsh. They do get some decisions correct... Name one. Bringing back TP was a good start to the second reign. 15 years of frozen season ticket prices. Free travel to away games. There are things they do well. Hughes was an ok appointment. Appointments since have been poorer. About time we got one right.

Anybody who wants the Coates family out especially in the current climate are off their heads and are not really thinking it through I don’t want them out for obvious reasons. It could be suicide. But the fact people are starting to look at them as part of the problem isn’t an indictment of our fan base; because the frustrations are understandable. It’s a total indictment of the Coates family themselves. They’ve been fucking up badly for over half a decade now. If anything I’d say they’ve been fortunate to have gone this long without drawing criticism. But I will just reiterate I genuinely believe we would risk the death of the club by selling up. Yes it could go amazing (Leicester) but there are too many examples throughout the leagues of what could happen if it doesn’t. The key with being owned by the Coates family is that we know we aren’t going to be allowed to enter financial meltdown. But the fact is the club is run to the vision of 1/2 individual supporters. And at least one of those is a footballing dinosaur who has demonstrated a worrying inability to recognise what’s going on on the pitch. “I don’t see what all the fuss is about”. It’s not ideal.

I just don't understand why some fans think we have some divine right to success. Its a rare thing, it requires the right manager at the right time with the right players. They need to have the right backing and possess a great team spirit. They need to be lucky, have few injuries etc. All highly unlikely!

The Coates family have been great to the fans and supported managers as much as they can. I can't comment on what they think like the original post as I have no idea there and don't have that ability but FFP has obviously hindered the spending. To moan re them is simply stupidity looking at some other clubs and their situations

Of course I would like them to do it better at times and hope that they look to do that.

At this point I'm not sure there is any 'hope they improve' is there? It's been 16 years, they are what they are at this point. It's a case of either advocating new owners or accepting the archaic practices of the current ones, that gave us a great decade in the Premier League but have also caused this decay since then. They're not going anywhere regardless, from the looks.
