When we had warriors and players with a spine the wind was a great leveller for us against the poncy, lightweight footballers who didn’t like getting cold or muddy. Now we have become the latter, it is counter productive because such is the character of the personnel we put onto that pitch, they really don’t like it.

On a serious note how about the club investing in the installation of suitable wind breaks on the two open ends. Perhaps after 25 years the penny might drop How about installing some wind turbines and generating free electric to heat the seats 😁

Not too many completes with Pulis sides. We prospered with some very astute signings And yet he brought Palacios, a player who couldn't play in the wind, to the windiest ground in Britain 😀

The stadium still doesn't feel like a home ground should. It's a sterile experience these days. Nowhere to get a drink or decent meal near to the ground. Delilah's is a rip off from getting in, and to the prices in there. So people choose to arrive late to the ground. Access and parking is a joke. Fans are spread so thinly around the ground that singing is usually feeble (unless we feel wronged by a refereeing decision or bad challenge) The away fans are given too much prominence. The away team (and Stoke) walk out to a barrage of away noise usually. This must inspire the away team and demoralise us. it's easier nailing blancmange to the ceiling than getting off the car parks after the game
Sadly nothing will change so we must accept that this is 'our lot' now. I'm only grateful that I spent my Stoke apprenticeship on the true Boothen End at The Vic. Midweek games under the lights were a thing of beauty (usually).

At least 25% (or probably a lot more) of our fans will have never been to The Victoria Ground (it is coming up to 25 years since we left) and I wouldn't blame them for looking at this thread, rolling their eyes, shaking their heads and making some comment about the "granddads" going on about how great it was in the past.
The football ground is as good (or as bad) as the team that plays there.
It could get just as cold, wet and bloody miserable watching at The Vic and the atmosphere when we were getting 5,000 against the likes of Coventry in the old Division 1 could be every bit as funereal as it ever has been at the current ground.
I think back with fond memories of the 37 years I spent watching us at The Vic, in the same way as I have fond memories of my first car (an old Morris Minor), but if I had to chose, I would stick with my modern reliable car.

How about pining for something better than shite? In it’s time it might have been better, I only have small memories as I was only 10 when we moved ground and only went occasionally before then also. But it was a bit of a dump eventually. That being said, I don’t like our current stadium either. It’s characterless.

Why does everyone moan about the ground? Because it's a characterless shithole built on top of a slagheap on the cheap. So you're not keen on it then?

If they built it in Hanley where they are building the arena and put in a retractable roof, 35k capacity, it would turn the whole city around and prove once and for all, we have AMBITION. Not just the club, but the whole city in general. It would absolute transform the city and turn us into a big player in terms of shows and football and also transform business for our city centre. Little old stoke thoughts would no longer exist and we would have a amazing stadium in the centre of town. Would it happen? Would it fuck, but what a way to transform our club and city in 1.

To me Stoke should be the city centre. We are call the city of Stoke on Trent not hanley on trent. Plus the railway station is in Stoke. Council offices in Stoke, etc. And the key factor is the mighty Stoke City are in Stoke not hanley. The vale used to be in hanley and i wouldnt want us to soil our shoes in that pond.

I don't get the hate. It may not be perfect, but it's ours.
Some grounds across the country are horrendous. Miles out of city centres, crap transport links and no pubs around them.
We have a ground you can walk to in 25 minutes from the train station or a 10 minute bus journey for £3 return. There's a choice of four or five places to drink before and after in close proximity as well (although I drink in Stoke town itself).
Stop hating on the place. Some people need to travel a bit to realise it's no where near as bad as people on here make out it is.

Built in Hanley 35k retractable roof would've been helplessly expensive. We couldn't afford the ground we've got now.

What we should do is bulldoze the crucible theatre in Sheffield where they have the snooker and build it there.
It'd be controversial but there's no such thing as bad publicity

Why does everyone moan about the ground? Because it's shit. It's really shit. It cost £27m (inflation adjusted) which is slightly more than the combined cost of Ince/Vokes/McClean. And like that trio it's unbelievably shit. It cost £15m (not inflation adjusted). I “believe” the land was £1.

People used to moan their bags off about the Vic. The state of the car park. The bogs. The wooden seating. The tiny club shop. The fact the Boothen roof didn’t cover the whole terrace. I could go on…

We've never quite been Stoke for me since we left the Vic and headed for the present soul less carbuncle on a wind swept hillside. I just feel my heart sink as I approach the Bet365.
