What about the Waggon + ‘Osses Meir? Oh dear, if you attended Sunday night disco and you were not from Meir you had to run the gauntlet from the locals at the end of the night ….. useful practice for survival at away matches!

Sure was. Good shout. Was thinking Haslington but that's the Fox. You'll probably remember Galahads in Sandbach. Galahads was in Warming Grange a great night although it was in the middle of nowhere.

Yes...took a gal from Audley there once. Real 70s looking place. Another place would serve anyone. Good shout, forgot about that place. Looked like the pub from Shameless Didnt someone famous once run it aswell? Andy "The Hammer" Hamilton kept it for a while.

Quick side track from the thread Badger is I lived pretty much opposite the Red House, on one of the side streets. The Off Sales their was my first pub experience going across with my sister to get crisps & some ales to take back home. Pretty certain at the time in the 70s it was a Bass pub. Foley Rd? I lived in Thanet Grove Grosvenor St

Not quite an 80's drinker although I turned 18 in 88 but locally for me we had the Galley, if I fell over outside i was already home, we'd do a crawl from the Hop in, now Mcdonalds, then onto Globe, now a vets, then the Nelsons now nothing then Red lion, now a bargain booze then top house (Red Lion) which is still going under some other name, Brennans, then a few around Kidsgrove, Queens,Plough, maybe the Harecastle (now the Railway) Canel Tavern and the Blue Bell. Not all in one night of course then we Had the Milstone in Butt lane, the Wood shutts(now flats) the Oasis up the road now a Toby Carvery then we had The Corner Pin in Butt Lane(hit the news a few years ago when Liam Gallagher rocked up their, his personal body guard is from Kidsgrove and he wanted a quiet pint). Bottom Bull (Red Bull) still walk down the canal whens it's nice with the wife and dog. Bleeding Wolf and Traverlers Rest in Scholar Green, Three Horseshoes was always a good one back in the day,Then up the other way from me we had the Robin Hood, the Ash, Cheshire View (Saw Phil Collins in there once thought is was just a look a like but was told after it was him he was uo seeing his niece who was living up here at the time) The Mow in, then Nags head and Royal oak. So not really many knocking around back in the day and it's fair to say I've spent some considerable amount of time in most of them

Wasn’t there a pub in Pittshill near Tunstall which was effectively a small terraced house with residents either side?

Me and a mate drove to The Mermaid at Thorncliffe a few times in the 80s... Was like walking into The Slaughtered Lamb. It's now an outward bound place by the looks of it.
Painting of a Mermaid over the roaring stone fireplace.
Landlord "What will it be gentlemen?"
Us "Err just two halves Thanks!" Lol

I remember once being in The Philippines and a few bars were just people's flats selling hooch. Locals would point the way.

I last went few months before the pandemic..doesn’t look like it’s opened up again since. Hope Sid’s alright! Sure he was in his late 80s. Shame rally but “proper pubs” seem to be dying out, too many characterless ones around now

We walked into a bar near the Kings Hall in Stoke, plenty of people drinking, leather sofas, big flat screen TV and it did turn out we'd just walked into someones house by mistake.

Cant remember the red House on heathcote street where about was it can only remember the off license at the top then the old sal opened up The Red House was Heathcote Rd chap, next one on the line was The John Marston on Longton Hall Rd. Heathcote St yes! You had The Sal, and correct me if Im wrong 2 pubs called The Vine (Top & Bottom) Top Vine is the one I think had the Offy. A New Years Eve pub crawl around there one year after we had been to charity shops for our evening gear springs to mind! Those Sandford Hill mob had a lot to answer for! Sandford Hill Heathcote St had the Traveller’s Rest, just up from Anchor Road junction. The off license was just that and owned by Pete and Irene Blagg, then the Old Sal was and still is down the other side near the shops and bollards. The top Vine was behind the offie, in Edgefield Road that runs parallel to Heathcote street from Speedwall St down to Longley road. Parents still live opposite what was the Travellers.
