Corkys on London Rd. Was an interesting looking pub opposite Oakhill school . Name was tree related Corkys was previously known as the West End. Its closer to the lost Boothen School. Had a lovely full size snooker table upstairs. The Oak Tree and the sadly lost Bird in Hand were in Oakhill near the school and JoJos respectively. I'm sure I remember going Corky's and having a meal there because for a while they were doing Thai food. I think?

Hanley had some great boozers in the late 80s/early 90s, mainly down to some top landlords who ran a tight ship
My favourite was the Market Tavern in Percy Street when Nev owned it. Great 80s tash and curly hair and a neat line in golf jumpers. It was next to Mr Nudge and next to my barbers shop. Across the road was a sunbed place.Kebab shop somewhere. There were Saturdays in the 90s when I didnt need to leave Percy Street for 48 hours. Salvo was my barber, a Sicilian guy , he was still there a few years ago when I took a walk down. There was a guy with two dogs who owned the French Horn on Fountain Square , Dave I think, everyone used to respect him. Didnt it turn into some cafe a few years back Used to like Flickers as well, the one on Town Road where you walked down the steps next to the old WH Smiths. I think it got turned into a Flares. Guy with glasses ran it, good friend of Dave and Nevs, the three old them were old school landlords

We would start in the unicorn, Ma didn't mind as long as we had gone by 730 when her regulars came in. Horny Frenchman, Market Tavern, Tontine, the Albion, then to the Corner House, finished up in the Woodman, which great when Les was landlord and into Chicos followed by the Arzoo or somewhere. After away games we always met in the French Horn first.

Yes Hanley was exciting in those days, like our own metropolis or sun city, all the pubs mentioned were lively plus whatever music you were into - soul, heavy rock, punk or mainstream pop/disco there was a venue just for you. Grim how itâs turned out although Piccadilly has a certain amount of footfall, partic when shows are on at the Regent or Viccy Hall? Also noticed a load of blokes coming out of the Coachmakers the other night and crossed over to see Jack Dee at viccy hall.

The barbers is still there, pretty sure it's the Sicilian blokes son, nice bloke.

I'm so glad the Coachmakers is still going, I was really worried when all that new bus station malarkey clicked in it would be lost. Great little boozer.

I think I'm right in saying they now can't knock it down and the proposed redevelopment has to go around it. It's back serving proper ale. I doubt it will ever have the same eclectic mix of punters as the 80s, post punk, rockers, indie, soul and baggies all getting on listening and singing along to guns and roses the clash, the stone roses and the cure together. Happy Days.

Out of Town was a bit posuer-ish âŚ.. footballers should would nowadays be in Wilmslow/Alderley Edge were âliving the dreamâ in there, remember seeing a very young Paul OâGrady/Lily Savage doing a drag DJ act in there one night, Fâd and blinded all the way through which seemed daring circa 1983! Leadbellyâs was more alternative/cool âŚ.. DJ Wilf playing chilled jazz and soul tunes some nights, I think it became an Irish bar in the 90âs? My favourite âden of iniquityâ had to be the Flower Pot Hotel, top of Shelton, a strange vibe going on but nevertheless fun, people who wanted a late drink but couldnât be arsed to go clubbinâ

Quick side track from the thread Badger is I lived pretty much opposite the Red House, on one of the side streets. The Off Sales their was my first pub experience going across with my sister to get crisps & some ales to take back home. Pretty certain at the time in the 70s it was a Bass pub.
