Giving him the job in the first place was bonkers. I described him as the nightmare appointment at the time. Thankfully that particular nightmare is over but now comes the harder part, choosing the next man through the door.

2 points of the top and a 53% win rate. Are they fucking Barcelona??? Wigan have four games in hand so, to be fair, it's unlikely to be two points off top by the time all those fixtures have been played. But I agree that it looks like a very odd decision from the outside looking in. Sunderland have been in utter turmoil for years and desperately just need some stability. Have to question how they'll ever achieve that if they let a few bad results throw them off course.

I watched a Thogden YouTube video of the game yesterday and the Sunderland fans he interviewed seemed to really not like the manager and that was irrespective of the result.

They’re a good watch though young Thogden can be slightly annoying. They really don’t fancy there chances of going up automatically do they?

We don't know what goes on at another club. All we see is the league table and occasional highlights. Their supporters know and they don't seem particularly upset.

I have in laws who are season ticket holders. They dislike him with a vengeance win, lose or draw. They have wanted him out for sometime, they just think he is a complete and utter twat! They will be delighted.

I wonder what this will do for Batth. New managers tend to dismiss the previous manager's most recent signings, reegardless of quality.

Sunderland fans hate him.
Plus, when they lose away they lose big style- 6-0, 3-0, 4-0 and 5-0 recently (that's all in League 1 and not including the cup loss at Arsenal)

Very surprising, they are nailed on for automatic promotion after several seasons of failing to escape the hell hole that is league 3.

The two teams above them have more points and at least 2 games in hand (Wigan have 4!). Most likely scenario is they face the lottery of the playoffs.

A few things to point out:
- On the face of it, it is a harsh sacking when you look at the table and his win %, however there’s been a few murmurings recently that he’s lost the dressing room with his arrogant nature.
- The 6-0 defeat isn’t the first league one thrashing this season we’ve suffered, 5-1 at Rotherham, 3-0 at Sheff W, 4-0 at Portsmouth immediately spring to mind. He cannot set up a defence when playing 4 at the back (see below).
- He unnecessarily tinkers with formations and tactics, we played 5 at the back against Portsmouth and looked defensively solid and won it 1-0, he then for no reason at all goes to 4 at the back (which is what we played in the previous thrashings) and low and behold, we get beat. It’s annoying he doesn’t have a consistent preferred formation.
- Apparently he has been digging his heels in to stop Defoe signing as he thinks it’ll cause some problems (like we don’t have any problems without Defoe…) it’s no coincidence that he’s gone and now Defoe is set to sign. Although I hope this isn’t the main reason LJ has been sacked.
I’ve no hard feelings against Johnson and some of the occasional stuff we played was very good, but his reluctance to learn from previous defensive mistakes has cost him overall I think. We were far too open under him and it didn’t look like changing, especially away from home.

Quality training ground you've got there.

I was at the Academy of Light facility yesterday with my youngest. Quality training ground you've got there. out of interest how would you rate ours? I think it's very good and comparable to many of the top clubs in the North West outside of Man United, Man City and the new Liverpool facility but I don't go there regularly. Those that do say the Astroturf is rubbish and not befitting of a training ground of our standard and the negative is that we don't have an indoor facility on site which most of the top clubs do. My lad played one game indoors and one game outdoors, both on astro, at the Academy of Light yesterday and the facility was excellent. As an aside, I'm pretty sure we saw (and heard) certain members of their first team squad celebrating when news of Johnson's sacking emerged just before 2pm yesterday but I couldn't swear to it.

The new owners saw Danny Batth play for the 1st time at the weekend and instantly thought "WTF is this manager thinking"? Before yesterday my Sunderland mate said Ba’ath was signed to play in the middle of a back three and they thought he played well in his first game. They may be revisiting that opinion after yesterday.
