All in all, he's one of our greatest ever players. Probably top five.

Different eras have different players who are synonymous with their clubs. We've had many over the years, but Ryan Shawcross is one who rightly stands out as the epitome of Stoke City during his time with the club in the modern era. An absolute gem of a signing by Tony Pulis, and one who developed into an outstanding player and leader by example, on an off the pitch. As has already been mentioned his partnership with Robert Huth was a delight to watch and they gave many opposition players a torrid 90 minutes, particularly at the Britannia Stadium. His latter years were sadly injury prone and today's announcement brings to a close a great career. Hopefully Ryan will return to Stoke City in some capacity in the near future but in the meantime it just remains to say "Thank you Ryan, and good luck in your retirement and the next stage of your career". Ryan Shawcross #17 I 100% second that post. Good luck Ryan, and thanks.

You’d think there would be a chance. Has he done any of his coaching badges? Yes, he has them all A and B and most recently the Pro. He says he wants to be a manger. I expect he will start as a coach at an English club in the top 2 divisions. If he was to go directly into management it would probably be in a lower league or even non league. My lad had just started a new job at Inter Miami. Ryan's coaching the 2nd Team and my son worked with him yesterday. He said he's a really nice bloke.

Battled back injuries but the strength of this man's spine & character was never in question. Played through pain, rose to any challenge, laid everything on the line, student of the game, natural leader, Stoke ambassador & pure legend.
Whatever you pursue Ryan, just be happy - you have certainly earned it big man!

An absolute giant of a man! Gave his all for our club. The word legend is often overused, but not where Ryan Shawcross is concerned.
Thank you for your incredible service to the club Ryan! Wishing you and your family all the very best for the future.

You’d think he’d bring in an experienced assistant to help him start up. Hope he makes it. One thing is nearly certain: if he doesn’t make it, it won’t be for lack of trying.

He’s currently fitter than most of our first team
The very best of luck Ryan wherever that first step is

It’s great Ryan has all his UEFA badges, but if I was him I would spend time shadowing top coaches and learn the art of tactics, in-game management, and the different coaching methods applied. That’s something you can’t learn in the classroom. He should call up the likes of Klopp, Pep and Ancellotti to expand an outlook that’s only previously been confined to the likes of TP and Phil Neville!

Best of luck Ryan, hopefully you will manage Stoke one day. Just don't see him as a manager. Thought he was a great player but not a great captain.

Just don't see him as a manager. Thought he was a great player but not a great captain. He was an unbelievable captain. I don't think he was. He was quiet and his body language when we were on the slide was poor. That's my opinion. Happy to agree to disagree with anyone who doesn't agree.

Happy to agree to disagree with anyone who doesn't agree. Tbf he captained our most successful side in several generations, but I didn’t see him barking orders much, but maybe he didn’t need to? I dunno 😂 Best of luck to him tho, hope he makes as good a career as a manager as he did player

Great player in his time, after that incident when you needed someone to rally the players he just looked a resigned player who had given up that day. Agree re the barking orders, not his style but sometimes you need it and that was it.

Not only did he never really play a run of games for us ever again, our slide gathered momentum afterwards.

Happy to agree to disagree with anyone who doesn't agree. Led by example and never out of the referees ear. He was always talking to the players, a captain doesn’t need to be a Vinnie Jones type lunatic. Look how far we’ve come without him in his pomp and captaining us every week…

Did Graham Potter ever captain a club side? Mark Hughes was scary as a player yet avoided confrontation as a manager.
Only time will tell if Ryan makes it in coaching / management, but I wish him every success
