Chris Uwelumo never tore up any trees for us. No but he did score against the Vale and for £25k that'll do

Never witnessed Carew at Stoke but John Carew was a cracking striker back in the days. Think he did alright at Villa was it? Apps 131, 48 goals, 14 assists. I’d take that all day. He’s played Champo League with 1 in 3 too, again a good return,

I didn’t think Joselu was that bad either. Not prolific, but I thought he was ok. Scored a few decent goals for us.

No one mentioned Xausa yet Think was at Chester he played. Went on to play in Scotland seem to remember for Livingston. Name popped up the odd time on the mini printer thing.

Alas, one of several members of the TP sticker collection who were good in their prime but blown by the time they rocked up in Stoke on Trent along with the likes of Gudjonsson, Owen, Palacios and Woodgate.

Tuncay never did much for us but I think that was more to do with the way TP used him than anything else.
Add him to the list above.🙄

Joselu was a good centre forward.
Afobe’s record is better/as bad than a few of the current strikers too.

Has anyone noticed the recent strikers have done well before joining us? Maybe it's the club not the player. I'd love see Joselu upfront for us now, tuncay was a beast before he came here, so was Carew.

Joselu was a good centre forward. Afobe’s record is better/as bad than a few of the current strikers too. Joselu was a decent player. Afobe had Good movement whenever he played just didn't get anything from midfield (same problems as today)

Carew? Brilliant striker for Villa and Norway and whilst he didnt set the world alight with us he still scored 3 in 7 or something like that I thought that, until I checked. 2 goals 1 assist in 13 games. Don’t know how many minutes or sub apps tho but that’s low Well past it when we had him.

As much as I like Hughes his use of the strikers was odd. Diouf scores double figures up front and then barely plays there again. Joselu holds the ball up nicely and links well with Arnie, Bojan etc but barely got a run.

For fun Central attackers over the years (in no particular order); Suddick Lighbourne Randall Scott Berchin Carruthers Daddason Greenacre Carew Gujohnsen Gudietti Berahino Joselu Afobe I must have missed some!!! You got Joselu on there (who was decent) and left some absolute shitters off. Have another go 🥥

Joselu clearly had some ability, but he hardly ever chose to enter the penalty area. He played all his football where it was easy. So no, he wasn’t a good centre forward.

It’s exactly what we needed then he was shunted to right back.

John Tudor don’t think he scored after we signed him permanently. Should be on there for def. He was awful after a dream debut.

TP didnt fancy him clearly Tuncay should be nowhere near that list. We completely killed off his career, which to that point had been largely successful, by not playing him. He always looked decent enough to me. It was a terrible move for him.

Can’t agree that Afobe ‘had good movement’ he barely broke into a jog.
Michael Ricketts was an appalling loan signing, one of the worst strikers I’ve ever seen.

Simon Stainrod was hugely disappointing for us. He came, not long capped by England, with a big reputation. However he also turned up so overweight he made Kevin Wimmer look like Twiggy. In a Game against Sheffield United in early 1988 he was audaciously controlling goal kicks on his chest, and had one cheek puffing mazy dribble beating three defenders that was as much as a shock to him as it was the crowd. Incidentally in the same game, Peter Beagrie (playing for Sheffield), turned Steve Parkin’s Y-fronts back to front in a great display of wing play. Stainrod’s first goal against Swindon was greeted with a chant of ‘What’s it like to score a goal?’, and I remember wonder goals against Walsall and Birmingham. Seven goals in total, and I saw everyone. Rumour had it he left the club because he’d decked Mick Mills during training. As a school kid I used to see him in Newcastle High Street, and he was always cheerful, approachable and friendly. The bloke is a legend everywhere he played apart from us.
