The back 3 or 5 whichever way you look at it is hard to watch, away I can just about accept the shit football but at home we should be going for the jugular against teams, when MON first arrived he played 4-3-3 and the football was good to watch we looked a threat and was scoring some good goals while playing decent football. Now it's as though he doesn't trust it or the players to carry it out. Gouranga.

Davies Fox Batth Wilmott Smith Tymon Vrancic Sawyers Campbell Fletcher Brown Gouranga. You know as well as I do that won’t happen. The wing back system is not the issue

Could be a feisty affair this one, they've sold a couple of thousand tickets so the atmosphere should be decent as well. They arrive full of confidence but I always fancy us when teams have a go so if we can get 11 fit players on the pitch I think we'll sneak this one 2-1. They're another team sticking rigidly to 3 at the back and it looks like Bradley Johnson might have to play their as a makeshift defender as Ayala limped off last night:
Davies
Ostigard Batth Wilmott
Smith Sawyers Tymon Doughty
Vrancic
Brown Fletcher
Subs: Bonham, Duhaney, Chester, Fox, Oakley-Booth, Ince, Campbell
2-1 (Fletcher, Vrancic; Brereton Diaz) 22,823 (2,098 Rovers fans). Weather sunny but bracing. Beer lukewarm and overpriced. Pies cold on the outside radioactive in the middle.

We have to kick it harder when we can see the goal. We're quite arduous and physical but when we get sight of goal go all delicate and fragile.

I’d be very surprised if it wasn’t:
Davies
Smith Ostigard Batth Chester Fox
Sawyers Tymon Vrancic
Brown Fletcher
Personally, I’d be hoping that Wilmot would start instead of Chester, who shouldn’t play three games in a week as that’s when he starts to make the mistakes that people chastise him for.

There seems to be an underlying lack of responsibility up there and that's why nobody dares shoot.

I think that there is a chance he might start Campbell as he hinted at before blast night's game. I'd try
Davies
Smith Ostigard Batth Wilmot Doughty
Tymon Sawyer's Vrancic
Fletcher Campbell

Up front is a major worry if O’Neill keeps playing Brown every week. I give it that he never gives up but he is woeful. Those two chances, Saturday and last night were shockingly poor for any standard, if O’Neill keeps picking him then we certainly aren’t going up!!

The ref will call this off at half time because we’re getting battered so much, and I’ll probably get tea-bagged on the concourse*
After our latest appalling run of results in the last few games, we’ll be lucky if we finish in the top half.
*for the avoidance of doubt, I’ll be the cup, not the bag.

BBD hat trick anyone?
In all seriousness I think it will be a close game, we’re a match for anyone at home, but he’s in some top form and I think he’ll score 2 in a 2-1 win for them.

My fear is that at least one of Fletcher or Brown will be out through the injury they picked up last night.
I would rather see Wilmot in midfield than move Tymon because wing back is his best position and I suspect if he does play midfield Fox will play wing back.

They’ll be on a high after midweek.
I’d genuinely start Wilmot in midfield- he’s played as a holder before and I think he’d do ok there. We need to go for it a bit more for me.
I’d go
Davies Smith Batth Ostigard fox Wilmot Vrancic tymon Brown Fletcher campbell

He’s too slow and pedestrian for this league.

I'd like to see Doughty get a run in the team now, agree with that although I would start with Campbell now, if he's knackered after half an hour then sub him, but let's get him on from the start, he's our best player

Is Thompson definitely unfit?

Post by shakermaker on Nov 25, 2021 21:22:18 GMT
This isn’t about the wing-back system. We have too many players out to make 3-5-2 viable.
4-3–3 would be a good shout, though I really would try Wilmot instead of Tymon in the holding 3. It’s a good opportunity to see if it works.
Start Tymon on the left of the front 3. If Wilmot’s ballsing it up, stick Tymon back there and bring on Alfie to slot into Tymon’s place.
If MON’s not up for experimenting, go 4-4-2 with a midfield of Tymon, Vrančić, Sawyers and Ince… though with the latter that’s even riskier than trying Wilmot at holding midfield!

Is Thompson definitely unfit? According to MON on Tuesday he's working with the medical team which in MON speak seems to mean no chance, a long way off. Next step is out on the grass, then working with the group but Saturday will come too soon then finally available.
