The taxi driver is an absolute hero, well done sir!! I shall be donating towards his fundraiser this evening. There's some seriously fucked up individuals about who want to cause harm to anyone of us at anytime and I'm so glad this guy clocked the situation and ultimately locked that piece of shit in his coffin.

But what did he do that is heroic? Bit harsh, he had the forethought, at what most have been a very panicked situation to lock him in the taxi and save potentially more loss of life. I’d say heroic and he should be rewarded for his quick thinking.

Could've been horrific.

Don’t post or repeat shite then.about stuff you have no clue about ..that’s a genuine request The problems of sectarianism and sectarian antagonism in Liverpool have greatly reduced but it’s taken almost 200 years to get to this point , the 1960-70s weren’t the best , but by no means the worst ..posts and mis information such as yours do little to keep things moving in the right direction , they’re glib throw away remarks on and around a subject that still needs to be treated fairly and factually in this city to prevent the seeds of resentment ( from either side ) to grow ..peace and harmony And since you like comedians quotes , here’s one from Alexi Sayle from 2008 ‘ Liverpool is the only city in England where somebody can ask you if you’re orange and not be talking about your phone contract That's fair enough, interesting to know. The Manchester, London and Birmingham attacks seemed to receive far more coverage than anything that happened in Liverpool- and I am aware there's a sectarian past on Merseyside (there's a film called No Surrender about it that I vaguely remember). Perhaps you could have said that initially without the attitude problem though? Makes it more of a surprise that the previous Shadow Chancellor- and Liverpool native- John McDonnell has an IRA plaque in his study, if his own city has been targeted.... Incidentally, would you say Everton are more the Protestant club? They seem to have had a few links to Rangers down the years, whereas Liverpool seem closer linked to Celtic. If you mean support wise , in my view another urban myth , that only outsiders seem to worry about and for some reason want to pigeon hole the two clubs , based on Glasgow or Belfast , whereas in the city , it’s not a factor . .if you mean at board level , historically there’s been arguments that each favoured one side or another at different times in their history , there’s also some that say there’s anecdotal that it’s Everton’s as opposed to Liverpool’s early rank and file support who were made up largely of catholic ( remember Everton came first and won their first league title at Anfield as their home ground ) but although there’s been books written , I’m not aware that’s ever been given much credence Certainly in my life time when it’s certainly true there was still sectarianism issues in the city then I’m not aware the clubs support was split on sectarian grounds ..and being either Catholic or Protestant wouldn’t mean you’d favour one club over the other ..or be seen as going against your community for following the wrong side ..our school was Protestant the blue and red divide was equal ..at a time when both clubs were very successful pre and post war in my dads era many would have a favourite , but many who could afford would go to one club one week , the other the next ..tribalism football wise only really started in the late 50s As I’ve said before Liverpool as a port city is quite a unique city , a real soup and not without its issues , the receiver it’s estimated of 400, 000 Irish catholics over the years into a prominent Protestant city ,which included an existing Irish Protestant community ..that’s frequently reinventing itself ( including its accent , that has changed from my youth ) that often struggles to understand itself ..it’s little wonder then that others from outside struggle to understand its complexities also ..but never understand why they need to pigeon hole aspects of it based on other divided cities ..it’s unique as all cities are one of those unique attributes ( I wouldn’t say qualities cos that’s in the eye of the beholder ) is because others are forever putting it down then it and it’s people defend itself with a passion ..so sorry if I offended earlier ( genuinely and sincerely ) it’s our way to come out fighting when we think we’re being cornered and 9 times out of 10 it’s bluff and a bark is worse than our bite

But what did he do that is heroic? Other than spotting a suspected bomber locking the doors to stop the bomber entering a maternity block of a hospital and potentially saving lives while risking his own is pretty dam special most would have just slammed the brakes on and ran off that in my book is the definition of an heroic selfless act. If you disagree that's fine......

My other half drove past it minutes after it went off.
The taxi driver is a very lucky man to survive that explosion.

Don’t think he was parking up mate I read he noticed some wires etc on the bloke and he was messing with them so as he stopped the car went up and I was amazed the driver got out ………. I may be wrong as my wife usually tells me

All I've seen is the video. So, it's a genuine question. I think as above he became aware something wasn't right during the "fare" and made a split second decision to lock the doors. Of course the facts have to be astablished but if that's confirmed then it's amazing that he was switched on and noticed and the actions he made are equally amazing.

I genuinely wasn't aware that Liverpool had suffered any IRA attacks as it just doesn't seem to get referenced as much. Not sure where I'd seen or heard the item I mentioned earlier but it didn't seem that much of a leap of faith given the large Irish influence in the city. It's a fantastic and friendly city though, especially given it's problems.

Quite possible/probable that he thought his passenger was a bit weird but harmless. Then saw something to change that opinion as they arrived at the hospital. I'm sure we'll hear his story in due time anyway.
