Never knew he was from these parts. A voice as recognisable as Mr Motson to footy fans of a certain age.
RIP Gerald.

RIP Gerald.
A voice synonymous with the early rounds of the FA Cup. You knew it was October/November time when you heard his velvet voice describing Tim Buzaglo's hat trick at the Hawthorns, or this year's crazy goal celebrations from Kingstonian.

A footballing encyclopaedia, he was the voice of Granada TV on Sunday afternoon and commentated on all the classic Liverpool European Cup games. His style was completely different than other commentators and came across like a headmaster that never made mistakes, he was the commentator when Gordon Banks was paraded around Anfield by Bill Shankley.

Great commentator and didnt need some zoon [Hoddle/ bloody McManoman etc] to "help " him RIP Sir Indeed commentators did it on their own back in the day - and much better it was too, without Lee "stating the bleeding obvious" Dixon. RIP Gerald, Folkestone to Stoke.

I drew some plans up for him and his wife Margaret in Trentham a couple of years ago.
A lovely man.
As people have said, the voice of my youth.
RIP Gerald.

Another one who was the voice o 70s football on ITV along with Hugh Johns. If it was a Granada TV game, the tones of Gerald were the best way to appreciate...
...and even though this isn't the greatest Youtube footage & not even a Stoke game, the words "Denis has done it" are legendary in my eyes

He was excellent. Didn't he do that notorious afternoon in Burnley and Alan Durban after slating the ref said if he was unemployed next week after his comments re McNally , could he fix him up with a job at Granada?

Never knew he was from these parts. A voice as recognisable as Mr Motson to footy fans of a certain age. RIP Gerald. Me neither. Thought Motty was looking old and weary at the St Albans game at the weekend. Another one for the great sheepskin coat in the sky soon enough I expect.

Great commentary from Gerald in this classic match. Cunningham and Regis on another planet here and the reaction to the last goal is brilliant. I was at that game. Think was my 3rd or 4th game ever. Long story but was incredible. Laurie Cunningham was such a great player.
