Never knew he was from these parts. A voice as recognisable as Mr Motson to footy fans of a certain age. RIP Gerald. Yeah, agreed. Had no idea he was from North stafforcher, and was a smashing commentator. Rip Gerald He was from Kent but like any decent southerner once he found our area he stayed

What’s also little known is that he was a referee in the Stoke-On-Trent junior leagues

Great commentary from Gerald in this classic match. Cunningham and Regis on another planet here and the reaction to the last goal is brilliant. "Booing the black players" Bit woke, Gerald...

He was from Kent originally and grew up there, but eventually settled here. I’m not sure of the exact reason but it seems it was our gain. Similar to many others I suppose like Lou Macari (who does great work here) and Gordon Banks (who was so associated with Stoke City and SOT that there seemed to be a widely held misconception that he was originally from here).
RIP.

Bit annoying that Albion scored when he said that because it sounded like he was going to say a bit more about it. We know it went on back then but it's not nice hearing it. Still Laurie Cunningham answered in the best way and Gerald did this match justice.
