Thompson can (or should) be swapped with Allen - whether starting or as a sub. I’m more concerned this is asking even more of Vrančić. He won’t be starting all these games, so it’s going to require some careful and tactical use of Clucas as well. I think they both need to play, it gives the midfield more structure. For me it's Vrancic or Sawyers. So Vrancic. In a 3-4-1-2, definitely Vrančić as the CAM and Sawyers as one of the midfielders behind. In this formation I think Allen is too much of a headless chicken so I’d actually rotate between Thompson and Clucas in the other midfield position. Allen is safer as a sub. But in a 3-5-2, Allen and Thompson should be rotated as the sitting midfielder. In front it would ideally be Sawyers and Vrančić, but we should bench Vrančić for games where his creativity and vision is not a must-have and start Clucas instead.

If you do that though it leaves us open in midfield and tasks Thompson with doing the entirety of the dirty work himself. Sawyers has shown he isn't up for that. Clucas doesn't do a lot of that either (or much of anything else). Allen has been less of a headless chicken overall this season and will actually bother to try and recover the ball, which Sawyer has no interest in doing. I'm not sure why you've decided everyone is droppable but Sawyers?!

When I broke my wrist I only had the cast on for 4 weeks. I know it's not weight bearing like a leg but it was broken right through and needed manipulating and I'm more than 30 years older than Powell so I'm being optimistic that he'll be back sooner rather than later. Wasn't Glen Whelan playing again about 4 weeks after a similar injury?

As much as I like the intent of playing Allen, Vranic and Sawyer's in a midfield 3, I think it leaves us way too exposed, as pretty much of three, 2 won't tackle and 1 can't properly. In spells against Sheff Utd we had total control, yet other teams will always fancy their chances with that 3.

We might aswell go four up top because the midfield doesn’t exist

I know it's been said elsewhere, but worth repeating here, that the only thing Clucas adds to the team are shortened odds for a red card. No runs, no passes, hides, mouths off to refs, crap at shithousery - wouldn't mind if he never appeared again.

We need Powell back ASAP, we miss his guile shithousery and hard work so much.
Bang average to crap without him

Sawyers has been almost anonymous tonight and certainly isn't a Powell replacement as a no 8, Vrancic doesn't seem like he can finish a game, we're missing Powell ore than most thought. Gouranga.

He's our best player by some way. Hopefully he will be back in training the next couple of weeks
