Taping the songs you liked on the top 40 Peter Kay did brilliant gag about that where he was bang on the money that you shushed everyone and also tried to time it to perfection without the DJ voice on. Sunday nights were brilliant.

If only they'd foreseen Simon Cowell instead.

It doesn’t bear thinking about what this thread might look like in 20 years time! “ didn’t do much really” “You tube videos” “Wearing those crazy face masks” “Walking around the streets all night with my hood up and a knife in me pocket” Etc…..

I dunno, not that I play on them but PlayStation and Xbox shoot em ups look considerably more entertaining than pointing a stick at your mates and shouting bang

Best man falls was quite fun to be fair Building treehouses and bases in the woods a personal favourite. You wouldn’t catch kids doing that these days. Using brains and brawn, quality.

Mine did as kids, we had a huge garden tho, only about 10 years ago, have things changed that much, now that mine have grown up I don't take much interest.

Playing in the fields around Cellarhead and the Corona lorry. Taking the pop bottles back to either the pub or the Alpine lorry😄 One of my fondest memories was seeing the Alpine lorry in Bryant Road and asking my old man if he could buy a bottle of Dandelion and Burdock for me.

Bonfire night, started building the bonfire about two weeks before. Bugger all adult supervision on the night. Roasting taters in the embers. Throwing a jumping Jack into a crowd. Seeing who could hold on to a lit banger the longest before it went off
Bloody hell it was risky being a kid back then

Rationing, school milk, collecting paper for recycling, getting on a train at Normacot Station plus conkers etc.etc. as already mentioned. Oh yes, and bonfire night was on November 5th and not spread out as a week long party.

Seeing who could hold on to a lit banger the longest before it went off Bloody hell it was risky being a kid back then We put an empty 50 gallon drum on the embers of a bonfire once, Christ almighty talk about a boom, put a fire extinguisher on a camp fire also and it went off like a missile. I’ve always said if my kids got up to half of what I did I’d kill them.

There was always a burnt out car on the bottom field (well it is Meir), I can still smell it now, we spent hours in them for some barmy reason. Seen bonfires mentioned further up, weeks and weeks of hard graft scrounging for wood and some hard bastard bullies came along and set it on fire! And this was fun ha! Rissoles for tea, Saturdays was hovis and crisps watching Land of the Giants, hospital visits galore with a huge plaster on my eye under the pink wiry NHS glasses. Meir WMC on a Saturday with the Grandparents as Grandad was a commitee man, that bloody snooker table looked huge. 60's and 70's as a kid, wouldn't change it for the world.

What was that purple stuff they put on you if you fell over in the playground. Most kids you to go home with some of it on them Didn’t seem to serve much purpose

Meccano and Scalextric. Taping down the throttle controls at the right setting and watching the cars go round until the plastic on the throttle melted (unexpectedly).🤔

Taping the songs you liked on the top 40 Thought I'd perfected a way of 'mixing' in the songs on dad's new stereo (had a lovely smoked grey plastic lid and wood efect body..thought it looked the biz However, looking back I do believe my use of the not- fully- put down pause and play button combo (don't know but it worked...for a while ) was possibly responsible for the stereo's quicker than usual demise. Was absolutely made up when the folks got me my very own stereo..Amstrad, had it's own smoked plastic lid. When I left home my dad 'inherited ' it Wednesday night Stoke matches , loved 'em. Getting a new pair of shoes/trainers and keeping them by the bed, looking at them before going to sleep ...maybe just me that one Used to like the crisps that made a comeback that came with a sachet of extra salt...imagine that nowadays Jaws...still love it
