He called Jacob Brown, Barnes yesterday. Now when he calls him Jason Brown you can decipher what he means but he didn't even say Jason Barnes yesterday he just said Barnes was coming on. If you were listening on the radio you'd wonder who the fuck Barnes was surely? I noticed this too, he repeated his sentence with the correct name a few seconds later though, hopefully the players see the funny side in it. If I was a player I'd be setting up a sweepstake on what he'll call them next, or maybe Nige is just toying with us all and he's playing his own game.

Things must be going be well if the only thing to complain about is the commentary on the radio.

Nigel Johnson is undoubtedly a Stoke legend, but like previously stated it may be time for him to be replaced be before his great longevity and ability becomes just that, ie memories of a past reputation. The man to replace him is still at the Radio Station, and remains the best sports reporter we have had, John Acres. Its time for the heirarchy of both the Radio Station and Stoke City let their past mistakes behind them and reinstated him. As for Sandos, Blakeman and co, amateurs would be a flattering description

John Acres' family has moved down south and he's not here at weekends to be with his family. So that's him out, leaving two alternatives to Our Nige... Lee Blakeman or a certain Mr McGarry. I'm okay with Lee but no way would I listen to the commentary if McGarry was doing it. For now I'll stick to Nige and his 'centre cirtle' and 'red and white stockings'. Apart from a couple of chuckly moments yesterday, I thought he was very good. I wonder if any other radio station had two octogenarians as commentators yesterday. Smithy was as bad as Nige, but I wouldn't tell him that to his face. OS.

Let me put it in these terms: if a player kept making several mistakes every game due to age, would we be happy that he kept his place because he's a 'legend' or a 'Stokie'? Clinging onto Nige sums Stoke up as a city: scared of change and obsessed with the past. Let me put it in these terms: elite-level professional sport and low-budget provincial radio are not analogous entities.

Incidentally I can never understand what people’s beef is with Blakeman either, he seems to do a very decent job to me.

Incidentally I can never understand what people’s beef is with Blakeman either, he seems to do a very decent job to me. To be fair he has been much better recently, but there was a period last season where he frequently got distracted and took on the role of a pundit rather than commentating on the game. For those watching the game at the same time it’s fine, we just had to put up with his mundane opinions, but for those on the radio who are relying on him to tell them what is happening on the pitch it is far from ideal. He is fine at P&G but he has to wear a different hat when he is commentating. It’s a tough job though and I don’t envy it, I imagine it takes decades of experience to learn to do the job well

I didn't realise he was only 73. He's only a kiddie. OS.

I mean it’s not like he plays pivotal role in the club, he’s just commentator for fuck sake get over it Get over what? I'm just making an observation on a messageboard fella. You get over it 😆

Excellent performances from Nige and Denis tonight.
In particular, Nige is worth the license fee on his own.

I think big Nige is an absolute legend, I love his “Nigisms” and look forward to them …..I often get the players mixed up, the numbers are hard to read sometimes even with me “Gregory’s “ on (Specs ) . As for the stadium I still refer to it as the Brit……I don’t find the Bet 365 stadium has the ring to it as the mighty Bearpit ..

I tried to commentate once whilst watching the match using a rolled up program as my microphone, i tell you it is harder than you think. Also got to shut the f up by a bloke sat beside me.
