I’ll never understand moaning about him. Yes he gets names wrong and a few other bits. But I love the way he commentates a match. Always found his enthusiasm and the way he describes the match entertaining. You can listen to some whose voices are just monotonous one tone who show no emotion when even their own team scores.
Nige loves football that much he puts in the emotion even if the other team scores - the one thing I wish he would stop doing so convincingly as more than once he’s had me off my seat where I’m not paying full attention only to find its the other team who’ve scored haha

We even had mention of the "Britannia" Stadium at one stage. He has become a joke and an embarrassment. Time to go

12 years since we last won our 1st game of the season, the team still bonding and overall a good day. However it seems that if you went the match then everyone moans about the ref and if you stayed away you moaned about the commentary. Will people ever be happy?

he'll be missed when gone due to his unique style. He certainly is making mistakes but can live with that. Hugh johns did it all the time on TV but regarded by so many as a great. I don't think some will appreciate him as much until replaced which hopefully is a few seasons away for me. I vaguely remember Chris Florence as a kid, loved him and like Nige had his own way of commentating. Compare them to that bloody egit with the coloured rim glasses that used to be on Radio Stoke, forget his name , George someone, Pratt perhaps. Someone above summed him up well as painting a picture, exactly what he does. Part of the furniture for me when can't be there. Lovely man as well. Hugh Johns is regarded as a brilliant commentator emblematic of a golden era etc. In reality, at the time, he was thought of as an old irritant. Tge power of nostalgia. OR the power of insisting nothing's as good as it used to be.

A true legend, I hope this was just him warming up for the season ahead though, anyone listening on the radio is hearing a different game. I’m not sure Allen and Vrancic look that much alike, he got them confused quite a few times though. Baath and Fletcher too, they definitely don’t look alike. Jason Brown I can’t remember what he called Doughty but it sounded like something you might order at a fast food restaurant. I was at the match so can’t comment but my 26 year old son listened to the match on the radio. He sent me a text after the mad 3 goal few minutes and said “ Nige has lost it…he ain’t got a clue what’s happening “ 😂 Nige is a legend but I do think it’s time to freshen things up at Radio Stoke…and not just Nige.

I think he should retire, we need a more dynamic, youthful, modern voice and less harking on about the bloody 1970s.His gaffs are getting worse and worse and makes for uncomfortable listening at times. He is a legend nevertheless.

Him and Pejic losing their shit at the stoppage in play during the 2nd half when the linesman had to go off was so, so frustrating. They assumed it was because the players wanted a drinks break! To be fair, I was at the game and I thought the delay was for a drinks break, as did everyone else around me🙂

Nige really can't see what player it is most of the time as he mixes them up in a way that's unbelievable! He even mixes up players with different skin colours, which is good in a way, but still something that makes me laugh!

I find him much, much better to listen to than most of the drivel put out by other radio stations and, indeed, the TV channels. The Championship man on Sky Sports gives me a headache.

The bashing of Nige is now verging on ageism.
I sat a couple of seats away from Nige yesterday and I struggled to see which player is which.
I have a message to Nigel Johnson - carry on for as long as you like.

I have a message to Nigel Johnson - carry on for as long as you like. I think the explanation for the multitude of mistakes is being put down to his age, I think that isn’t unfair, it’s just a guess at why he gets things wrong as often as he is doing nowadays. It’s a bit like when a fan criticises a player like Stephen Ward or Fletcher for being a bit slower or not as capable physically, only with Nige it’s a mental degradation rather than physical. I really don’t think it’s because people don’t like older folk!

Being an exiled Stokie, I hear a lot of Niges commentary, and I love the bloke..
Many moons ago I had to switch channels to listen, (possibly Signal radio?), and that was just bollocks.
Carry on Nige, you're a legend in stockings.

As a kid I thought he was useless as you know players yourself from sticker books etc then a commentator gets them wrong but so many seem to regard him as a great. I guess is another case of looking back and remembering things better than they were. Someone on here claimed Angel Delight was nice. Age is certainly creeping up on Nige but to insult him is not on. So what if he called the ground the Britannia once? hardly a reason to get all excited, some still do on Sky, final score etc, hardly ruining the match is it? something personally I could learn to live with and get over.

Clearly the voice of SCFC but its clear the standard is only going one way.
Listening to him making errors and Pejic moaning about the fact it's not 1974 anymore can only he accepted through a comedic angle, which shouldn't be the standard.

Alternatively, go to the match.... pathetic He's paid to do a job from our licence fees, don't people have the right to criticise something they pay for when it's poor service? Of the £3 a week the licence fee costs l'd guess only about 15 pence comes to local radio, to be fair.

Nige is a part of the matchday experience to me. He makes me chuckle with his errors but he more than makes up for them with his actual commentary. He's the one presenter who paints a picture of what's happening and I always know which part of the pitch where the action is taking place. Maybe it's time to bring in somebody who 'speaks' modern twatter language and can tell you the value of every player on the park because they play FM 2021 on a regular basis? Not for me though. I wouldn't swap the old bugger for a gold pig. Carry on Nige. OS.

Nige is nige, he’s obviously getting on but I can’t imagine Radio Stoke will be in a hurry to move him on because they know how it’ll go down with the majority of fans.
Pejic though, I’m not sure he ever has anything positive to say about Stoke nowadays.
