It seems that the BBC Radio Stoke have decided that anyone who normally listens to the match on Freview 724, can only get the amazing commentary from the Crewe match, and no longer listen to Stoke. The only radio platform it is broadcast on is FM. We are in 2021 and FM is rapidly becoming an outdated service, especially if you live just outside the coverage. There must be thousands of Stoke City supporters that cannot receive 94.6FM, or even have an FM radio. Does this impact you? If so please message radio Stoke on 81333, start the message with Stoke, and tell them. I estimate there are 40000 possible fans losing out, and seeing that Crewe can't fill their ground capacity of 10000 even on big games, I estimate the Freeview Crewe listeners will be very low., less than 6000.

Having always lived away since 19 yrs old I’ve never been able to listen to the game on the radio “for contractual reasons”….
Our promotion year I had the luxury of hearing it all unfold through my big clunky iMac as a student having to pay Stoke to listen to it through their website.
Taking offline in modern times will be because of contracts / money etc etc. The club can’t run their own decent online streaming service so by protest I’ve generally always followed Stoke through dodgy streams and other avenues, pretty much every game without missing much.
Imagine if a community orientated club could pull their finger out and offer something modern for us fans that geographically can’t go to the games… imagine if you were forward thinking, engaging? - it’s almost like you would make more money directly into the club and have a better connection with your custome….. ahem… supporters!

It's one of the many things I'd sort or at least attempt to if I was on the supporters Council. This, the fan zone, social media pages all need a major update. We're in 2021 and our club is still miles behind.

Do interviews with players, show fans videos of the players training, training ground tours and even a day following Mon showing fans what it's like behind the scenes. Plenty of things and options but the club are just way behind.

Stoke City bought the rights to broadcast commentary online and via DBS. So now you have a choice of paying for the commentary or nothing if you live outside of North Staffs area. Few seasons ago you could open a Stoke City Plus account free of charge and listen to commentary but now the club charge a fee. I will not pay because I’m already paying for Local Radio through my TV licence.

Are videos of behind the scenes etc already on social media, training etc. Is there really that big a call for it?

You can, Liverpool do it and so do Leeds they're the only two clubs ive listened to but it can be done. The broadcasting can be made better too with former players invited every game with a proper build up. The videos done get broadcast in enough places that's even if they do that kind of stuff?. Fanzone could be great too, we have some fantastic local restaurants and brewers who would all welcome being invited different weeks into the Fanzone and cooking fans different foods.

As I said earlier few seasons ago you could open a Stoke City+ account and listen to their commentary online. It was basically Radio Stoke selling them the broadcasting rights for matches. However the club suddenly slapped a fee on this service which I refuse to pay for as I already pay for local radio via my TV licence. There is definitely a call for commentary for fans like me living outside the area.

You can't just send someone with a microphone and commentate live . Liverpool have a match build up thing, so do Man U etc. You could say slightly bigger clubs than us with more interest in match day activities.

They can also film before and after the games aslong as they don't film any match play live. With ifollow I don't think there would be much market for this at present anyway, but for commentary I think they would as the older fans who live further away would listen imo. Like I say the supporters council need to push it more towards the club, the main one for me is the fanzone and with local businesses needing cash after the pandemic now is a fantastic time to push it forward. It would cost around what, 200-300k dig out the bank behind the old sentinel stand, put steps in, put screens in with covers and heaters and ticket booths across the top to allow only fans with tickets into the fanzone.

It isn't that simple. There are broadcasting regulations. When we moved to the Brit the club considered similar to what you suggested. There was going to be a match day radio station broadcast but would have meant cutting off at kick off time.

I sent several messages to Radio Stoke Praise and Grumble, and both 6 o'clock sports shows and all have been ignored. So I think they don't want to answer any contentious issues about the supporters who live outside the area and now can't listen to the match commentary. I reckon it's down to satisfying their head of sports, the Crewe commentator, who would be looking pretty red faced if he was trying to report on his match and their supporters had no access to the Crewe game. Saving embarrassment at the sacrifice of several thousand Stoke supporters disappointment.

This is why streaming games off the internet/iptv, are so popular nowadays.. not just a stoke thing of course. Itll be the death of clubs eventually, u can watch literally any game (up and down the leagues) now in the comfort of your home. We don’t live in the 90s anymore and football clubs need to be more innovative or they won’t survive

I would think that the overwhelming majority of Stoke fans who listen to the match day commentary actually live in the city and surrounding areas so why would they NOT broadcast it on the best local radio frequency - that being 94.6FM? The BBC will know the figures better than anyone and that's why the least popular listened to game has been relegated to Freeview now medium wave has been discontinued. So from now on, Stoke, being the top team, will be broadcast on the channel most listeners use and The Fail will get 2nd spot on DAB, the second most popular listened to channel.
I understand that some Stoke fans will be disappointed that they can't get to hear the game if they live out of town but it's always been like that until recent times when they added Freeview for listeners.
I won't comment on the other matters like streaming etc. because I know very little about them.
OS.

The only place they can listen is on free view. You're not telling me a professional football club who are within the BBC radio Stoke coverage area shouldn't be able to listen to commentary at all?

Stoke City - FM 2. Port Vale - DAB 3. Crewe Alex - Freeview Seeing how most people still listen on FM as people don't have DAB in their car CURRENTLY etc I think the priority is as you suggested it should be.

I won't comment on the other matters like streaming etc. because I know very little about them. OS. I would love to know the actual numbers of Stoke supporters who live outside the FM broadcast. Lest not forget that even parts of Staffordshire Moorlands can't get a good FM signal. There are over 20K residents of Cheadle, Leek, Uttoxeter, Buxton etc where there are strong supporters for Stoke City, who now can't follow their team unless they come into the Potteries. Plus there are holiday and temporary residents on the North Wales coastline, Blackpool, Southport, and in all the major Cities within 50miles of Stoke. Freeview came in around 2014 for radio popularity, so there are thousands who have listened to it for 7 years. Even residents of the nearest prisons follow Stoke on Freeview, and have no other access to info from the game. There are stats you can access about the radio station and its listeners but it won't tell us who they support, however Sport is the most popular programme and radio Stoke is listened to by 7.4% of all the BBC station listeners. So that runs into the hundred thousands.
