Where is he? Looked miles better than Brown last season and after today's game against Villa I'd have loved to see him play instead of Brown. Why has it gone so quiet about him?

Brown played well today I thought. Really! I thought he was wank as usual. He isn't good enough for our starting 11 as I see it. I couldn't see any improvement from last season, not at all actually.

I thought he looked better on the ball, his positioning was good and he was involved in some good moves during the first hour or so.

Massive shame for him that he’s injured as you’d have assumed that he’d be ahead of Goodwin for appearances this summer.
As for Brown, I think he’s had a decent preseason. I think we still need better, but he could develop a decent partnership with Fletcher in a 3-5-2. He’s ideal for the high press at least, stopping a lot of teams from building from the back.

As always he looks off balance most of the time, his decision making is always a tad too late, his efforts on goal look like back passes most of the time, I hope he will develop into a fine player, but honestly I have no hope for him! I say it again: he isn't good enough for a playoff chasing team, not even close unfortunately.

Bigger, stronger and his hold up play has been excellent.

Hope he comes back in time to get a good loan move. Shame too for Forester, who's injury sounded a bit tricky.
For the first time in a very long time, we have some good young lads that could make a serious dent in our first team squad if they are given the time to grow and develop.
Let's fire up that conveyor belt!

You can have a hope, but still don't really belive I think, and that is the situation here! I wish him all the best and he certainly is a trier, but when it comes to quality I really struggle to see much. Running himself to the ground isn't really what I expect as the only quality from a footballer, if so we could buy a racehorse instead for less money I presume?

One sees what one wants to see. I think Brown was OK, he has also gained more strenght in the Summer. Today we played against a Premier League team.

Brown is gonna turn good, try not to get stuck and stuck in that negative bollox group of fans that used him last season to channel their own negative existential gripes against life/the world.
He has a way to go for sure, but within a few games of being put up front around the end of the season he showed he’s willing to graft, learn and grow. Even when he was out on the RW, it was evident he was been instructed to just hassle and press the opposition LB and he did it really well.
I bet if he got some love from the stands rather than the incessant constant groans then he’d thrive much more, he’s a confidence player. Shame we got a solid core of fans who are so toxic and unfortunately often the loudest - especially last season on this forum when this is pretty much the only social meeting of our fan base.

I’d love for him to get off the mark at home in the season opener. A nice early season goal could see him build and grow in confidence. The sooner he gets the fans inside the better too, I feel we could really help him this season but he needs that goal ASAP.

Yeah Rob, it’s pretty evident across the forum at most instance that this is your stance on him and you are pretty entrenched in that mindset. Shame you haven’t been able to absorb some of the plethora of other fans pov’s on him and possible positivity that we could get from him as player rubbing off. I hope you get to enjoy your Saturday afternoons and support of the club 👍🏼

Is running a lot and try hard enough to play in our first 11? He is still relatively young, but I also think his understanding of the game is terrible despite of that. His skills on the ball and decision making are also way below average in my eyes, but still a lot of people here see it differently!? Do you seriously think playing with such a player could bring us promotion? I don't, but still I hope I'm wrong. I just can't spot any of the qualities people here obviously see! Good at holding the ball up!!?? Have we played anyone much worse at it?

Rob, you must remember me telling you this about Tom Ince from day one and it took you the best part of two years to accept it. Let’s see if Brown offers something early season because I’m sure Delap Jr. won’t be coming, so Davies seems to be the one we are most interested in.

Why the hell we would want Brown to hold the ball up anyway is bizarre, he is a chaser, run into through balls, over the top player. The running around a lot to warrant a place in the team - the player you are mostly describing to me is Allen. But yeah pressing the opposition, trying to make things happen and following instruction is part of the game. I reckon he’s on to if not at least get close to 10 goals to surpass it this coming season. With him chipping in, Fletcher / Powell / Vrancic / (another striker?) / Campbell - we could be on for a good haul. The bashing Brown, to me, is just a bit old/irrelevant and boring but I know how Stoke fans love to label our own villain so if you want it to be him then sure, suppose it gives Tommy Smith a break.

I still think Ince was one of of our better players under Rowett, but have faded after that. Why this has happened I don't know, but from his last couple of seasons I agree he needs to go.

Again I must say Tommy Smith certainly isn't one of my favourites, but he is decent on the ball and can put in a good cross as well. Just like he did for our first yesterday. Smith is not a bad footballer, but he isn't a very good defender as I see it. I certainly agree that I don't understand why we should play Brown as a hold up player! When used he should be a ball chaser never giving the opposition's defenders time on the ball. What else could he do?
